I'm the exact opposite, I absolutley love em. I would'nt mind an all Rush soundtrack, but the one they did up kicks ass.

Not that I'm complaining, but I'm kind of surprised that they used Bobcaygeon from The Tragically Hip instead of The Darkest One, given the boys history with the Hip in that video.  But by that logic they would have to include Snow on their soundtrack, and I think we can all be thankful he isn't on there!

I was curious about The Big Dirty Band so I found this

Rock Hard
THE BIG DIRTY BAND Featuring Two-Thirds Of RUSH - Cover Of 'I Fought The Law' Available Online
Posted on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 00:13:31

THE BIG DIRTY BAND, the one-off project featuring RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson and singer/bassist Geddy Lee, along with former TEA PARTY drummer Jeff Burrows, Adam Gantier (THREE DAYS GRACE), THORNLEY's Ian Thornley, and singer Care Failure of Toronto thrash band DIE MANNEQUIN, have posted the cover of the BOBBY FULLER FOUR classic 'I Fought The Law' at this location.

The song is the first single/video from the upcoming Trailer Park Boys - The Soundtrack, which will be released by Anthem Records on October 3. The soundtrack coincides with the upcoming Alliance Atlantis film, Trailer Park Boys - The Movie. The video for the song - featuring the TPB characters of Ricky (Robb Wells), Bubbles (Mike Smith) and Julian (John Paul Tremblay) on the streets of Toronto - was directed by Juno Award winner Andrew McNaughton (Rush photographer).

The soundtrack also features a performance of 'Liquor & Whores' by BUBBLES & THE SHIT ROCKERS, who include Lifeson and BLACKIE & THE RODEO KINGS member and solo artist Tom Wilson.

The ALEXISONFIRE cover of BLACK SABBATH's ‘Sweet Leaf’ is also posted at the aforementioned link. The all-Canadian album also features songs from RUSH ('The Spirit Of Radio'), ROUGH TRADE, APRIL WINE ('I'm On Fire For You Baby'), THE TRAGICALLY HIP, WINTERSLEEP and SWOLLEN MEMBERS. Commentaries from Ricky, Bubbles and Julian are interspersed between tracks. Former HEADSTONES singer Hugh Dillon appears in the movie as a new character called Sonny. The film was written and directed by Mike Clattenburg and is expected in theatres next month.

***********

Ian Thornley was the lead singer/guitar for Big Wreck an awesome band.

I can't recall thinking, "this music doesn't fit," anywhere.  Whether you love or hate whichever artists, the soundtrack is pretty decent. I agree though that Darkest One would have been a great adition.
Title: Re: Movie Soundtrack song list
Post by: KarateCollie on Sep 15, 2006, 12:13 PM
I agree that the "Darkest One" would've been a perfect addition, and I don't know why they wouldn't have included it. Bummer, ya can't say that I really enjoy "Rush" either. I just started listening to "closer to the heart" because of the ep. with Alex Lifeson, and I'll have to say I like Bubbles'version better. ;)

Huh! When I seen Bobcaygeon on there I was glad because it's actually one of my favourite songs by The Hip but I'm wondering how they're gonna make it fit into the show. I mean, I can't imagine associating such a slow song with Trailer Park Boys. But, I trust they know what they're doing. ;)

Cool site here, you can download a couple of songs

I also answered my earlier question about the Raine Maida reference in Trailer Park Life, they've finally added the OLP sampling that J-ROC refuses to pay for (because he's so hard :))
to the song.

Really, really weak that Julian and Ricky's favorite band, N.W.A., isn't on the soundtrack!!

I wonder if the producers even tried?  Easily would have been the musical coup of the year if they got them to re-band to record some songs for the soundtrack.  Big wasted opportunity.  Think of the connections too... DJ Yella, one of the band members now films low budget porn movies - just like J-Roc.  I read that another band member, MC Ren, who at one point was platinum, made some songs with Yella for one of the movies.  You mean to tell me he's not available to record something for the soundrack??  I think the producers could have made something happen if they really tried.

As a red blooded American, I gotta say that I also hate Rush.  But since they are Bubbles favorite band, I respect the choice to put them on the soundtrack.  Too bad they didn't do the same for Ricky and Julian's favorite band.  Probably won't pick up the album though.

I listened to the songs posted on the tpbmovie web site.

"I Fought the Law" is an inoffensive remake of this song by the Big Dirty Band.

"Sweet Leaf" is a horrible remake of an Ozzy Osbourne song... noise pollution.

"Trailer Park Life" is a song most have heard before by J-Roc.  It's missing the guitar part that is included on the TPB DVDs.  It has some other strange chorus that doesn't quite work as well.

"Liquor Whores" sung by Bubbles is my favorite song included on there.  Classic country comedy song.  Might be worth the cost of the soundtrack just for this song!

Are you referring to the OLP samplings?  That fits in with the joke behind the song and is a spoof of all sampling done in Hip Hop or Rap songs.

I also answered my earlier question about the Raine Maida reference in Trailer Park Life, they've finally added the OLP sampling that J-ROC refuses to pay for (because he's so hard :))

OLP is Our Lady Peace, one of Canada's biggest and best groups of the last decade.  Had they been American, they'd likely been bigger than....Nsnyc?  I can't think of a popular rock band in the states that's released 10 albums in the past decade.  RHCP maybe, Smashing pumpkins?

Anyway, they are a decent band and a slice of Canadiana.

I have to wait until next week to pick up my calender and I have to do some research to figure out where to get it because I couldn't find any in the mall tonight.

I just remembered something of interest about the song "Bobcaygeon" I'll repost it here...

One of the extras on the Season 4 DVD, Bubbles is in his shed with Steve French and decides to sing him a song.

Sung to the tune of "Bobcaygeon" by The Tragically Hip the part that goes

"Cause it was in Bobcaygeon
where I saw the constellations
Reveal themselves one star at a time."

Bubbles sings

"It was in Ricky's weed field
I found Steve French the kitty
cocksucker revealed himself one paw at a time."

Fricken hilarious Bubbles even does a MILD impression of Downie singing.  He couldn't do a full-blown impression or Steve French may have gotten spooked.  Nobody wanted to make any quick movements around him.

Edited to say weed not wheat filed as per SlipperyKilla's post
