Title: The Bruins Thread
Post by: Ole Dirty on Aug 31, 2007, 09:41 PM
I bet I am the only one that will probably be posting in this thread (besides the peckerheads who are planning on shitting on the Boston Bruins...) Any other B's fans in here?!?!?!? What do you think are the team's chances this season?!?!?!?! I think they will at least make the playoffs this year... I friggin hope! *Call up Bourque and Neely, get their asses out of retirement!*

When I first started watching hockey I was a big fan of Ray Bourque, Cam Neely, and Andy Moog. They really have no big names these days, but I am no "fair weather fan" I still support the B's in hard times. It kinda dissapoints me to see teams like Carolina, and Tampa win the Stanley Cup, because I feel many of their fans are fickle, just because other National Sports are so popular in those areas. Bruins was one of the original six, and I think they deserve a cup again!
I may be in Halifax on Sept 23rd... A couple of buddies from work and I are talking about going over to watch the exhibition game between the Bruins and the Canadiens.

There will always be disappontments.

I supported the Winnipeg Jets for 6 years and then someone from the US of A plunked some money down and they just up-and-left.  Haven't watched a full game since.

Loyalty - hard to buy

Sit on the Canadiens side but yell GO BRUINS

I'll be sporting the "B" on my chest over there! I would love to see the Jets or Nordiques make a comeback!

Refuck has an arsenal of Canadien paraphernalia. I just asked him to dry off with a Maple Leafs towel. He was pissed off. (serves him right). He tricked me into sleeping with a Hab's pillow under my head...bastard!

I had to wear a Habs coloured uniform once when I was playing hockey in highschool... I felt so disgraced.

I remember that I was more excited about Boston winning the Habs vs. Bruins series than whether the Bruins made it to the finals. Those were the best playoff rivals!

I'm on top of things.

Fucking nosebleed seats.
Me and some friends are hoping to scam some seats closer to the ice mid-way through is people leave or don't show up.

PS: I read the title of this thread and threw up my mouth. Managed to swallow it though... unlike the time when I read the title of the leafs thread.

Hey Ole Dirty, I gotcha back.  I grew up watching the best Broonz teams of all times in the 70s.  Sinden and O'Connell really made a mess of the team though.  The Bruins are now the bottom team of interest in Boston.  I remain loyal though, and I don't think the team will be as bad as some people are predicting.  Chara and Savard were good pickups last year, Phil Kessell was one of the top rookies last year.  Keep your eye out for Milan Lucic, he's the kind of player the Bruins need.  Hopefully he'll be playing in Nova Scotia.

I also grew up watching the B's in the 70's, though it was the late 70's, so I missed the Orr years and their last Cup victory. But I have fond memories of watching Rick Middleton, Mike Milbury, Stan Jonathan and Terry O'Reilly on the tv. I've never had cable, so once the tv coverage migrated from Channel 38 to NESN, I pretty much stopped following them. The Sox I could still get on radio, the Patriots were still on free tv, and I never really followed the Celtics too closely anyway. I tried to listen to the radio broadcasts but it just didn't work for me - baseball is perfect for radio, football works well enough, but with hockey I could never capture a mental image of what was being described (basketball is even worse for me, but then I still don't know what "The Lane" refers to).

Between the lack of tv and the destruction wrought upon the franchise by Sinden and his ilk, it's been hard for me to keep up my interest over the years. I check the standings but I don't know who most of the players are now. (pretty much the last roster move I remember was trading away Anson Carter, which bummed me out at the time). But now I happen to have cable, been enjoying getting to see the Sox instead of just hearing them. So I'm really looking forward to catching up on the Bruins and following them again - even if they are the least promising of the 5 local teams!

We could end up on TSN, a big drunken brawl breaks out in the nosebleed seats between Bruins and Canadiens fans. Then maybe some NHL team like Nashville or Tampa will see the drunken fan fight, and will want to move to Halifax because fans there actually give a shit about hockey! (Nice dream I guess)

When we get there, we should fucking riot! Maybe I will join your shennanigans if you go to look for better seats after the first period! Fuck it, it's gonna be worth the trip to Hali.

Yeah dude, join us for sure. We were planning on lookingfor seats during the second period but if we see some during the first we should go for them.
If the security dicks say anything we'll just have to go to the other side of the arena where the other guards are... you basically get one warning per guard so if we switch sections each time we got caught I think it'll be ok.
I'll have some beer money that night too!! :D

For a guy in his shape to be knocked that bad, just wow... it's good to hear he is progressing and wants to be back.

Been there a few times in the 80's when jay miller, byers, neely, bourque and company in the old boston garden and had a blast.Seem the flyers, nordiques, hartford and was brought for a tour after the game(i was pretty juiced).Sat in the penalty box(o'reilly owns it now)and just thought of old times. The new arena doesn't have the mystic as the old one and the team is just not like it used to be.I'll tell ya one thing though, they better get marleau from the sharks and get rid of murray because there going nowhere again real fast.Thomas is the only bright spot imo. :6paper:

Man, the old Garden... 30% of the seats were missing a view of at least one net or the clock/score. The back end of the building had sagged so bad there was a hallway that used to run straight across the back of the first lodge... you couldnt see end to end, in fact you couldnt see the center point from either end!

As dark, gloomy, missconstructed and failing as it was, I still miss it.

OD, they put up a fight, and all they needed was another couple runs through the crease to knock the goalie down before scoring and they'd be right back in the game.

Oh now now, in the past the Habs have been masters at net crashing.

Just such a miss-match of styles between the two right now and it's frustrating for the B's.

The Hab's style just totally knocks the B's off their game, even one nothing early Bruins were playing like it was 5-1, looking for a long outlet or tip chase to a moving forward, not the short tight passing we need and do well with.

I think we'de have done far better calling up 2-3 P-B's with speed and a touch while sitting Nokialineman , Riech or Thornton and maybe even rest PJ, he looked like shit tonight.

Yup.  No doubt in my mind that the Bruins are much improved over last year, but the Canadiens have so much more talent.  They have really done a great job of bringing young talent up through their system.  The Bruins have great heart and effort, but not so much talent, and loosing Bergeron and Alberts for most of the season has really hurt them.

As an aside, if you were not watching the game on NESN, then you missed a great F-bomb drop by former Bruin Andy Brickly during the broacast  :D  Here it is, thank you YouTube!

Our Ice Girls dont skate... or they do rarely like for 2-3rd period contests, I've only seen two on skates at the same time.

We have our WasteManagement crew for snow clearing.

What the Ice Girls mostly do is walk around looking hot, sell 50/50 tickets (charity cash raffle) and three times a game toss T-shirts during TV-Timeouts.

There's really only one chick who seems to totally get into it, she gets the people yelling and she's always the one with the T-shirt cannon. The rest seem to kinda have a look of...

"OMG there's 17,000 fat men screaming at me for a 2$ T-shirt that's so small I'd look like a whore in it"

I can guarantee you, at least one of the Ice Girls was sexually harassed at the game last night  because of the boys...

Wow!  What a game!  I'm fucking exhausted.  This Bruins team has serious balls.  They've played this whole series without their best player (Bergeron) and #2 goal scorer (Kobasew), Savard's just back from injury, Kessel was sat down for two games.
I can remember posting here in the fall that Lucic was staying with the big club, who knew?
I was just reading the Candiens boards and the lynch mobs are out already.
Only worry from Boston is that TT is looking a bit tired.  I wish game 7 was Tuesday.
In any event, Bruin pride is back, no matter what happens Monday. Time for another  :beermug:

You can all thank me for the win tonight. I was watching the Red Sox game and flipping to the Bruins game between innings. The first time I flipped, I see Montreal go up 1-0. The next time, I see them go up 2-1. A few flips later, I see them go up 3-2. I figure I should stop flipping. Then in the Sox game they flash the score 4-3 Bruins late in the 3rd, so I figure, fuck it. I flip to the B's, and the Habs tie it within seconds. I've watched maybe 5 minutes of hockey, tops, and I've seen all four Montreal goals and none of Boston's. So I stop flipping and stick with the Sox. I'm tempted to run to the computer to see what's happening, but I'm afraid that might jinx them too. When the bottom of the 8th started and they flashed Boston 5, Montreal 4, FINAL, I knew it was all my doing.

You're welcome!

(and of course, what happened next but the Sox score 3 and come from behind to beat Texas. Major mojo in Beantown tonight!)

I personally kiss my wife's belly or rub it for good luck. (She's 6 months pregnant if you are wondering) I discovered my good luck charm during the B's 2 -1 win in OT. I gave my wife a kiss, then her belly... Savard scored. The game the Bruins lost after that was because I was at work, and co-workers would of thought it a little strange to see me leave my office to kiss my wife's belly. So they lost. But there will be lots of kissing and belly rubs Monday night!

Title: Bruins to add Blake Wheeler
Post by: pcole11 on Jun 28, 2008, 05:30 PM
From the Boston Globe Bruins Blog,
http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins/extras/bruins_blog/

" Blake Wheeler, the highly-sought winger from the University of Minnesota, has advised his agent to finalize terms of a contract with the Bruins, a two-year deal that won’t be made official until July 1, in keeping with NHL bylaws that govern the movement and signing of unrestricted free agents.

"More than 20 NHL teams were interested in Blake, and this was a very tough decision,’’ said Wellesley-based agent Matt Keator, who also represents Boston captain Zdeno Chara. "And ultimately it came down to a few things for Blake, but mostly that he was comfortable with where the Bruins were headed as an organization — how this year they brought along kids like David Krejci, Milan Lucic, and Mark Stuart. They’ve done a good job of developing kids, and he wants to continue along that line.’’

Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli, reached via email, wrote that he was pleased that Wheelers chose the Bruins. "Of course, ‘’ added Chiarelli, "we can’t sign him until July 1, but we look forward to getting him in the mix. Any time you can get a young player of Blake’s caliber with that blend of size and skill, you are very fortunate.’’

Wheeler, 21 years old and 6 feet 4 inches, 220 pounds, was drafted No. 5 overall by the Coyotes in 2004 and long has been considered a potential power forward in the NHL. Just over a month ago, in the wake of his junior season with the Golden Gophers, he announced that he would turn pro and intended to exercise the right to be a free agent if he could not come to contract terms with the Coyotes.

Only in rare instances do college players become free agents. But Wheeler, because he played a year of junior hockey before joining UMinn, was eligible to exercise his right to become UFA prior to July 1, because four years had lapsed since his draft day. Once officially a free agent as of June 8, he began to field bids from around the league, and just last week cut down to four teams — believed to be the Bruins, Canadiens, Rangers, and either the Devils or Wild.

Finally, early this afternoon, Wheeler finalized his choice.

"This is a great opportunity,’’ said Keator, adding that Wheeler won’t be available to comment until July 1. "But everyone, including Blake, has to keep in mind that this will take some time — he’ll have a lot of work to do to be able to play the man’s game. He’s going from originally playing center on an Olympic sized sheet in college to playing wing in the NHL. It will take time. This isn’t someone who is going to step in and play first line in the NHL. He may have to start in Providence (AHL). But he’s excited, not only to get the chance, but to get that chance with Boston.’’

Here's Wheeler's most famous goal (so far):

Because the Leafs and the Habs sucked...

Actually, I have two older brothers, one was a Habs fan before he got all conservative / Jesus freak and stopped watching hockey. The other brother used to kick my ass until I said I was a Bruins fan... (seriously) and I have been a fan ever since. (Funny thing is he lives in Ottawa and he is a Sens fan now. They also had some of my favorite players like Cam Neely, Ray Bourque, & Andy Moog. I stopped watching for a while after they traded Bourque to Colorado.
