upgrade help
« on: Apr 23, 2009, 12:51 PM »
Hello! I've got good tech support (Walterx, I'm looking at you!) from here, and my uncle who usually does all my upgrades and helps with this sort of crap is MIA. I think he must be on vacation.

I have a few queries, but the structure of the queries and necessity of getting them answered depends on the queries before them (lol!) ...

So question one... Right now here are my specs.
Windows XP
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT
Amd Athalon 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 5000+
2.61 GHz, 2GB RAM

I am on an Asus motherboard.

I am wondering if I can switch to the currently superior Intel (instead of Amd), and not have to change my Asus motherboard...? Might be a stupid question, but when does one need to change their motherboard in an upgrade? What does the MOBO relate to?

AMD and Intel processors and the motherboards built for them are not compatible.

Nah the new intel i7 chips have surpassed the AMDs

But they are way more expensive and so are the compatible motherboards for them.
