Patrick Swayze, who has been battling pancreatic cancer for the past year, checked himself into a hospital Friday.

The actor missed a planned press conference in Los Angeles for his new A&E series "The Beast," leaving the network's officials to break the news.

"Patrick has asked me that I tell you that he has checked himself into the hospital this morning for observation after coming down with pneumonia," said A&E President and General Manager Robert DeBitetto. "Chemotherapy can take a toll on the immune system, and illnesses are a part of that."

Word of Swayze's hospitalization comes just days after he told ABC's Barbara Walters that he was praying for a miracle, but admitted that he doesn't have much time to live.

"I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," Swayze said. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe the statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it. I keep my heart and soul and my spirit open to miracles. I pray."

A year ago, Swayze was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, something that doctors say is usually fatal within six months.

Last July, Swayze began filming the new drama, "The Beast," in which he plays an FBI veteran who plays by his own set of rules.

The show's executive producer, John Romano, said Friday that Swayze only missed one day of shooting, and creator William Rotko said the cast and crew often forgot that Swayze was even sick.

"The sickest thing about him on set is probably his jokes," said Travis Fimmel, who plays the rookie partner of Swayze's character on the show.

"The Beast" is set to debut Jan. 15.

"[Patrick] thanks everybody for all the outpouring of support that he's received recently," DeBitetto said. "We hope to see him back on his feet soon."

yeah- we ran a story about this on the local news where I work today.

I was tempted to put a pic of Conky or Julian The Almighty in the box graphic but I didn't (out of respect).

I'm sure it would help if the media didn't focus so much on it though; think about it: Swayze's in his hospital bed trying to recover and think positive but he turns on the fucking TV and what does he see? fucking "Patrick Swayze Hospitalized" plastered over every goddamn thing. Fuck E! News and fuck the company I work for, NBC- for fuck's sakes give the guy a break. I bet if Bubbs showed up with his puppet it would cheer him up.  :bubs:

Swayze is one tough hombre.  He has one of the worst types of cancer and he's fighting.

He's a celebrity and that's what happens when someone lives their life in a spotlight - you get focused on whether it's good or bad.

Go, Patrick, go! Keep fighting the one disease that affects all of us one way or another.

Amen.

My girl watched Dirty Dancing 2 last night and said that Patrick had a cameo in it. It would be too cool if he was able to do a cameo in Countdown To Liquor Day as well.
