there are some stark similarities that would make you think that at least one of the writers or somebody has definately watched some TPB; all in all it is an original series in it's own accord and I have to say I am a fan :)

why in the fuck would you drink lemon flavored liquor if you're not Danny DeVito?

There's a guy named Justin who used to work at my restaurant who loooves "It's Always Sunny" but hates TPB. I think it as mostly to be contrary since 3 or 4 of us were obsessed with TPB and he was sick to death of us talking about it and quoting us constantly.
Anyways, I developed a keen eye for the similarities and was always pointing them out to him and it would annoy the fuck out of him. I started a list somewhere but I can't find it right now. Among the items were gas siphoning and open liquor in public without a reprove. (The waitress has an open bottle of vodka in a clothing store.) This is in addition to what's already been mentioned on this thread.
One interesting distinction - "The Gang" somehow never goes to jail while "The Boys" do on the regular.
Dollars to donuts Charlie doesn't have his Grade 11. :julian: :bubs: :ricky:
And Shitrock's in the cradle and J-Roc's hoes
Little Bobandy and the way that she goes
When ya get outta jail, son? Dad, I don't know when
But we'll get drunk and eat chicken fingers then, Dad.

yeah he was probably to busy huffing paint....i mean the same could be said for the big lebowski which predates tpb by a couple of years ..the dude goes everywhere with a mixed drink.at one point he gets thrown into a limo (with his mixed drink) doesen't spill a drop!(reminds me of the end of season two of tpb when the car and airstream crashes and the first thing you see is the full rum and coke come out of the wreckage.
for that matter the same could be said for some cheech and chong material..smuggling dope across the border etc.i think almost all comedy is drawn from previous comedy.

oh yeah don't get me wrong.i love tpb for it's fresh take on comedy!when i saw it for the first time it took me about ten minutes to figure out the set up of the show and from there i was hooked!i like how sunnyvale is it's own world.(it was the i love lucy episode).

plus the fact that some members of the show remind me of people i grew up with(even myself i was a bit of a bottle kid!)..as a kid our town had it's own "kid/teenage area" it was down by the railroad tracks.it was the only area that had any woods.not supervised by adults or police, there where about twenty of us that were regulars down there. we would smash bottles on a bridge smoke drink and act like a bunch of crazies!should have taped it we could have been rich!

Last night I tended bar and had on 3 consecutive episodes of It's Always Sunny on Comedy Central. TPBisms I noticed...
THE GANG EXPLOITS THE MORTGAGE CRISIS
Charlie tells a lawyer he knows a lot about "lawyerings". Said lawyer calls him out for not knowing what "filibuster" means. Sound like anybody we know whose name rhymes with "Ricky"?
Later in the episode Frank puts some kids to work stripping copper piping. Shades of Ray, season 7. (I was drunk when I first saw that episode and I thought Ray was stripping copper pipes out of a vacant trailer. "That's some straight up Detroit shit!" I declared only to be told that it was his own trailer. We have an army of Shitty Bills here.)
THE GANG HITS THE OPEN ROAD
They drive with open liquor, natch.
Poor Mac gets a mason jar of piss all over himself when Dee empties a piss jar out the window. Ray would've told 'em you need a piss JUG so you can cap it.
THE GREAT RECESSION
Frank and Dee move into a camper and attempt to run a business from out of it. Looks like a less greasy Dirty Burger. (It's hard to find an RV that greasy looking.)
Thing is, everything isn't ganked from TPB. I want to know what other shows they get their ideas from because those are probably pretty funny, too. :6paper:
And Shitrock's in the cradle and J-Roc's hoes
Little Bobandy and the way that she goes
When ya get outta jail, son? Dad, I don't know when

hell, archie bunker from the show "all in the family"(a show from the seventies) butchered the english language mercilessly! one quick example..this was the seventies mind you..

someone tells archie there are "lesbians" moving in down the street.
archie says "lesbanians,i don't care what country they came from as long as they get a job!"

what other shows was an input to it's always sunny you say?
it has a little touch of "married with children" with all the caniving against each other and whatnot..
