Yeah I meant to post a thread about this, a few of us from the Org are heading to New York!  I'll be there Sept 10 - 14.  Djet3k is coming all the way from Belgium.  Sarge will be there.

Looking forward to meeting you Butterfly, it will be nice to hang with some locals :)

Anyone else in the area?

I wish we had more TPB fans in NYC.

We have a few more recruits at Byron's restaurant.

BTW, Byron bartends at a restaurant on the Upper West Side.  We will be eating there.

Check it out: http://www.frenchroastny.com/index.php

Go to the gallery and select Outdoor.  That's our old bike sitting in front!  It makes the restaurant look cooler than it actually is...

OK so I arrive at LaGuardia 7:37 am on Wednesday.  I have to get to 19 West 31st Street in Manhattan.  What should I expect to pay for a cab?  Do they have any shuttles?  Any advice appreciated.

Here's my 2 cents on the cab thing..make sure you know your point A to point B destination thoroughly...ie: bridges, parkways and highways. Our cabbies have been known to take ya the 'Long' way around :). My friend came to visit me, she landed at JFK...the cab fare to meet me at my Aunt's house should have been $50..she had to pay $115

Thanks for the tip trice.  When I landed in Newark the cab dispatcher told me up front how much the ride should cost, same thing in Chicago.  I'm hoping they have a system like that at Laguardia?

Shake, the last time I went to NYC with my mother, my friend & her mother we got from LaGuardia to our hotel in Manhattan with this 'shuttle' service (I'm not sure exactly how legal it was or anything). The man's name was Peter (black with long dreadlocks) & he was very friendly; he charged $15 per person, got us right to the door of our hotel with no problem, provided commentary & answered any questions we had. The phone # I have is 1-281-541-9506, but the number may have changed since then.
I think the cabs tell you how much it is up front, my travel guide says it should be $35-40. New York Airport Express Bus costs $13 one way, $21 round trip.

Had a message from Djet this afternoon that he dropped $100 on a cab ride from JFK to his hotel, so yikes.

What do you consider 'bad'? $250 plus a left testicle?

Yeah, I guess it's not me that has to pay $100 for a cab trip. I'm just used to paying $5 for a ride anywhere in town (back in Owen Sound). It's all relative I suppose. (notice how I backed down under the threat of loosing my smokes ;) )

First off.....I refuse to pay a C note for a fackin cab. NYC is going to be expensive enough. For example....to try and acquaint myself......I took a look at my sister's AAA materials and if I took a cab down to Little Italy for the San Genaro feast they would take Broadway as the most direct route. So Trice is right. It pays to know your A to point B.

Super Shuttle will be my mode of transpo from JFK to the Herald square hotel. http://www.supershuttle.com/
That will run me about $35. It's a blue van with yellow lettering. AAA recommends it and I've used it before here in PHX. Can't beat it, great service.

My sister and I will be arriving at JFK around 5 pm tomorrow (Tuesday the 9th) She's coming in from Rochester NY (lucky) which is an hour flight to where I have to do the cross country haul  #-o.

I've already printed out my boarding passes on United so now all I have to do is pack and get my ass up at 4 am to catch my 6am flight.

Excited ? Well....It won't hit me until I land that I am actually doing this.

Here is the link to the Subway map. Look for 34th st/Herald square in Manhattan. That will be the closest station by the hotel.

You're such a gangster SMeG
You went to Rochester ? Alright ! Dino BBQ is guuuuuuud ! So glad you went to the Strong museum...a must see. Do anything else while you were there ?

Also....I'll be relying on the Herald square front desk folks for help and info. I bet they'll have pamphlets, maps etc.......

At least I know I'm not the only one with an early flight Shake  :D

I just called the hotel, they told me about the super shuttle for $20 from LG, and said a cab should cost around $40.  If you look on their website you'll see a lot of great attractions are within walking distance.  D is content with the hotel.  The rooms are small but they say that up front.  At least I have a private bathroom :)
