where do you fall in the current american political scene?  you don't have to endorse a candidate, i'm just curious what everyone is thinking about the situtations.

this is a mandatory question or you will be BANNED FOREVER.

*note I am not using this as a point of contention so I can argue pointlessly with people,  I don't want to debate everyones thoughts, just curious what they are.  ITS YOUR PATRIOTIC DUTY YOU APATHETIC JERKS!!!!!!
another specific form this question might take is, what is the overriding issue when you choose a president?  What is the overriding issue facing our country?  These two may or may not be the same.

The democrats seem to be their own worst enemy, which will likely lead to McCain being elected. There are a lot of people that simply won't vote for Hilliary Clinton because they still have a bad taste(no pun intended)in their mouth from Bills presidency. Regardless of the good he did, the bad stuff is what he'll be remembered for.

Obama could be the next JFK, if he can get elected. He's young and he's got a lot of good ideas.

Either way it goes, we can't do any worse than we are now.

Or can we?

Why? Because he can read off a teleprompter really well. He's probably reading the words of a middle aged white guy.

What has he ever done except run for office. What good ideas does he have? Every time I ask someone i get, "go to his website". Fuck that I want to know what this guy stands for.

He's against universal health care and he is for the privatization of Social Security (which they are really keeping on the down low now).

He will be toast in the GE if the Dems are stupid enough to give him the nomination.

Mc Cain will win and I will be looking for a new country to emigrate to. My two teen age boys will not die fighting for Haliburton and Exxon/Mobil.

Dude, I'm not endorsing Obama, nor am I saying that I support him. I'm also not looking for an argument. I'm just offering my opinion on the subject, there's no reason to be so hostile.

Clinton and Obama aren't smart enough to team up, they continue to fight amongst themselves, driving their supporters away. This election is the democratic party's to lose.

Middle aged white guy? Because black people can't be eloquent on their own, right? Pretty incredible thing to write on the 40th anniversary of MLK's assassination.

FYI, all politicians read from teleprompters, but Obama does it much less than others, and he also writes most of his own speeches (e.g. the big speech on race a few weeks ago), which is just about unheard of today in US politics.

What's he done other than run for office? Worked as a community organizer in inner city Chicago, practiced civil right law, taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago, and served 8 years in the Illinois Senate.

What good ideas does he have? Depends on your definition of "good" I guess. He's got a set of 20 or so issue positions on his website (http://www.barackobama.com/issues/) (yeah I know, fuck that right?). He is not "for" privatizing social security (he has only said that "everything is on the table"), nor is he "against" universal health care (he seems to favor a more incremental approach to getting there), but the reality is that neither soc sec privatization (a bad idea) nor universal health care (a good idea) are going to happen in the current political environment, no matter who is prez.

For my money, opposing the war was a good idea. Voting for it, like Clinton and McCain did, was a really shitty idea.

Why do you say that?

I've been hearing about how that debate is a joke, travesty etc.

I've watched quite a few of the prior debates and the only difference was that
the media for once treated Obama the way they have been treating Sen Clinton in
the previous debates.

I agree that perhaps "gotcha" politics have no place in a debate for the leader of
the most powerful nation in the world but that is the state of politics in the USA
today. The 24 hour news cycle has a voracious appitite.

There are a lot of points to be made about Obama, like his associations with shady people, his conservative economic advisors, on how he would retain private contractors in Iraq, on his lack of leadership on antiwar issues despite his rhetoric. All of his missing records, who or what is he hiding?

Besides we hear little from Obama besides "hope" and "change". Any suggestions that he discuss policy gets a "'it's on his web site". I dont want to read a bunch of white papers written by god knows who.

The way he stumbled and bumbled through the second part of the debate, I can see why he  refers people to the website. The democrats are going to nominate this lightweight and with the help of the media (this debate was just the opening salvo) we will get four years of John McCain.

Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid.

.... it was a joke {IMHO] because I think the American public has had enough about Rev Wright and what Hillary did or didn't do in Bosnia. What about issues that matter such as the cost of Health Care, the war in Iraq, the economy, the state of the education system, the looming food crisis, the sub prime ..etc.....issues that I would hope to assume most Americans care about.

And if I wasn't convinced at first, well the whole Lapel pin thing just really solidified to me that ABC had no intention of having a meaningful debate on the issues.

Hillary or Obama didn't lose anything much in that debate but the American public did.

That's what I meant by joke. It has nothing to do with either candidate,or my feelings about them either way.

And I agree with you in that I don't think Obama has a chance against McCain. But I wouldn't worry about ol' Hilary, Walt my freind. I still think she's your next President.

That doesn't really make me that happy. She was way down on my list of candidates but I feel is the best of the three we have left.

You know what's really annoying?  College kids who think they know everything harassing anyone and everyone that walks past a corner while trying to shove a boatload of stickers and shit in your hands.  This also happened with Kerry supporters in 2004.  The Libertarians might actually have a good candidate this year but obviously he won't win.  We need another charismatic, super rich fruit loop like Perot to run again.  This campaign has been so long, boring, and dull and the only thing keeping a pulse is the "Obama buzz".

Luckily the rest of America realized that supporting a racist wasn't the way to go.

Plain and simple.....we're fucked!

We've been fucked for 8 years now. I liked it better when the economy was good, people were generally happy and the president was the one getting fucked.

What we don't want is more of the same; a third Bush term with a rich, disconnected dead-man-walking to lead us deeper into the void.

I wish we were mature/evolved enough to hire the right person for the job. We are not, though. It's like a victim of spousal abuse becoming addicted to their batterer.

Even if he were made a citizen, he was not born in the USA. Therefore he can not run for president.
