CALLING ALL AMERICANS
« on: Mar 09, 2008, 03:13 PM »
where do you fall in the current american political scene?  you don't have to endorse a candidate, i'm just curious what everyone is thinking about the situtations.

this is a mandatory question or you will be BANNED FOREVER.

*note I am not using this as a point of contention so I can argue pointlessly with people,  I don't want to debate everyones thoughts, just curious what they are.  ITS YOUR PATRIOTIC DUTY YOU APATHETIC JERKS!!!!!!
another specific form this question might take is, what is the overriding issue when you choose a president?  What is the overriding issue facing our country?  These two may or may not be the same.

My concerns are as follows, and in no particular order;

2 trillion dollar war for no good reason.
Our country is now seen as insane and war-mongering, making one bad decision after another.
Millions of illegal aliens pouring into the country from the southwest.
My home and land are worth less every day.
Energy prices are higher every day.
We don't talk to our enemies, so they can never be anything else.

There are many more, but you get the gist.

I want a president who will troubleshoot and repair these issues.

I wonder if you can please be more specific. It's difficult to know how to change something unless you know what it is.
I can't imagine that all other Americaners think like I do, just as I'm sure you are all individuals and not a herd of like-thinking cattle. 'sayin', nomesayin'?  :)

Sorry, I should know about friggen sterotyping. It is that everything that bush did I will hate him forever for it (ex the war in Iraq, and shit involving canada such as the taxes paid on canadian lumber going into the US, Stuff like that.) I wish that there would be a president that wasn't such a control freak and that would stop fucking the canadians over (and on a side note, Relax on some laws and take up a more free state of mind on different issusessuch a gay marriage etc.) Now with me being canadian and being fed most of the crap that comes from the media in the US, it fucks ove3r my image for america but one thing though, all the americans on this board I view as cool.

I like some of Ron Paul ideas. I particularly like his stance on the Fed reserve and other banking cartels. I also think it's refreshing that he calls for America to stop draining it's resources by being the World police and put that money back into the Country. I think it's bold to ask what part does the US play in the instability of the Mid East and to question wether any good is being done or if this meddling of affairs has made it worse. {i know where I stand on that ques}

I have issues with some of his more 'Conservative" stances such as pro-life.

At one point i time I would have probably took offense at his stand of 2nd amendment protection. and I'm still not completely up on the entirety of the amendment {any Americans want to quickly school me?] but I assume in part it has to do with the right to bear arms?

I'm starting to think that perhaps the People do need to protect themselves...not against each other mind you.
I could see how a nefarious Administration with dubious intentions upon it's citizens would like nothing more than to dis-arm the people.

On a side note if I were an American I would most likely be a Kucinich supporter.

politics aside for a moment I think Obama offered quite possibly the most honest assessment of racism in America that I've ever heard.

I think we should elect a parrot for president. It's basically the same thing: Something that humans tell it what to say and then it says it. Plus it would be a good gesture to the other countries of the world that we don't take ourselves too seriously. :P Just a thought.

I'd have been more impressed had he made this speech six months ago. He waited until he was painted into a corner to make this speech.

He didn't want to make this speech he had to make it. A political calculation.

The Reverend Wright stuff is too toxic to be washed away with a speech.

Coming to your TV and radios 24/7 in June July and August.

Fade In: Video of the twin towers being struck by airplanes, the towers crumbling, people looking at the walls of pictures of the missing and rescue workers searching through the rubble.

All the while interspersed is video and audio of the Reverend talking about how we Americans deserved 9/11 while the buildings are still smoking and workers were still pulling people from the rubble. Video of the congregation jumping up and down and cheering. Video of Obama and his family sitting in the church. Fade Out.

After all this time 9/11 still brings up strong emotions in people. I still get angry when I see those towers fall.

This will be devastating to Obama. If he gets the nomination it will be another Ducacus and we will have four more years.

I'm sort of glad the Canadians are commenting in this thread. Five years from now you'll be saying, "Eh?" as you see these things crawl across your border.  Notice its already trained to navigate ice.  All they need are binocular vision and machine guns.  I'm so glad America ("I'm proud to be an American... Where at least I know I'm free...") came up with real life Starship Troopers stuff!!

That was very impressive Kyle. I was most impressed when it went over the concrete blocks. It did better than I would have done.

Put skates on it and it can attack us up the Rideau canal or play hockey for the Bruins.  Not much different than Chara.

I hope Hillary wins, she has the best health care plan! Oh and the country was in great shape when Bill was around.  The dollar was so high back then that my parents didn't even like to come visit me down here!   I think Hillary could get us out of the recession!  We just bought our house 3 months ago and it is already worth 5% less :(  But what do I know really, I am just a Canadian living in the USA hehe

Ok did that make sense?  I haven't had my morning coffee yet, lol

Makes perfect sense, coffee or no. There hasn't been a brighter, more prosperous, groovy time in my entire life (and I'm OLD!) than the time of Bill Clinton. We seemed helpful, hopeful and nearly content. Then, years and years of decline, gloom, despair and uncertainty. We could use another Bill, whether he's black or female  ;)

No problem. Canada is also affected by who goes into power. The americans have so much power in the world, that whatever happens to you guys can have a major affect on us. (even though I hate the notion but that is globalization for you)
