I haven't heard anything about DAODHFTH recently. I wonder if it's still a goer? I guess the guys have been busy with the movie (and maybe S8/more touring next year).

:(

Its all good. Once things start slowing down after the tpb movie, I bet we'll start to see things about the new show.

Does anyone know if Clattenburg is involved with DAODHFTH? Or is it a different type of show featuring JP, Robb, and Mike?
Fuck off, I've got work to do.

It would be nice to get some news from Clatty on this.
Doesn't seem like something that will happen though. In my opinion that is.

I agree Matt, I think that this was just an idea that was floated a while back and discarded shortly thereafter. I think that the only mention of this show was in that one article over a year ago.

Who knows they may have just pulling the interviewers leg? The name of the show itself makes me believe that.

Glad to see it still alive and kicking. Also glad to know that the ending didn't come because of the actors, wondering how high up the orders came to end the show, was it producers decisions or was it from even higher showcase.

It's all over but the crying into the rum and coke. After a final TV special airing on Sunday and a feature film due out next fall, the Trailer Park Boys franchise is shutting down - pulling the plug on the only major gig its stars have ever had.

But the actors best known for playing lovable stoners Ricky, Julian and Bubbles are not about to take the news lying down. They hope they'll be back - this time with prosthetics and makeup.

After a final TV special airing on Sunday and a feature film due out next fall, The Trailer Park Boys franchise is shutting down.

It's all part of a project Robb Wells (Ricky), John Paul Tremblay (Julian) and Mike Smith (Bubbles) are working on together when not touring their live act, The Ricky, Julian and Bubbles Community Service Variety Show. Trailer Park Boys creator Mike Clattenburg is not involved at this point, says Wells.

The Boys will play multiple characters on the show, still in development, which Wells describes as "Monty Python, Mr. Show, League of Gentlemen and Little Britain, all kind of mixed into one."

It sounds like a cockamamie scheme Julian might have hatched back in Sunnyvale Trailer Park - like the kooky dope-for-smokes caper in the final episode of season 7 (in which the Boys moved drugs across the U.S. border in a stolen toy train in exchange for cigarettes they planned to sell as contraband).

But the new project is an attempt to shed their Trailer Park Boys alter egos.

"Everyone knows us as these characters and nothing else," said Wells in a group phone interview while promoting the Trailer Park Boys TV special, Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys.

Wells and the other Boys are still reeling from the news the Showcase original series is ending, which they found out on the same day Clattenburg posted it on the show's website last month.

Since the announcement was made, Clattenburg hasn't been talking - not even to his buddies, despite the fact that he, Wells and Tremblay have been friends since high school.

Wells (Ricky) is flabbergasted that Clattenburg has offered no explanation and is upset the series is ending.

"We were looking forward to doing some other stuff, but I would definitely have continued with the Trailer Park Boys."

Clattenburg was not available for comment, but he was the one who made the decision, according to Tara Ellis, vice president of Showcase and drama content for Canwest Broadcasting.

"Obviously we're disappointed but we completely respect the fact that he's created this fantastic program and given us seven great seasons and numerous specials and feature films," Ellis said. "So while we'd obviously want more to put on air, we're grateful for the experience and for all the great programming we could bring to our viewers."

In addition to his work as director and main writer on the Trailer Park Boys series and movies, Clattenburg has directed music videos and episodes of other TV shows (including CBC's jPod and This Hour Has 22 Minutes). But Wells, Tremblay and Smith haven't done much other than the hit mockumentary series, which debuted in 2001, and the Trailer Park Boys feature films.

All three were in the Tragically Hip's video for The Darkest One. Wells and Tremblay appeared in the feature films Virginia's Run, starring Gabriel Byrne, and A Hole in One, featuring Meat Loaf. And, well, that's about it.

When Wells mentioned he has a part in the Boondock Saints sequel, All Saints Day, Smith quipped, "You had another movie, didn't you, a porno you were in?"

Still, they haven't done too badly for themselves considering they became cultural icons almost by accident. Wells and Tremblay, who met as schoolboys back in Dartmouth, N.S., were mainly just doing skits to entertain their friends until they hooked up with Clattenburg in high school. "He made the jump and basically devoted his life to film and television," said Wells. "We just thought we could never make a living doing it and then sort of got thrown into it by accident. Kudos to him and much thanks to him for getting us involved."

Smith, a musician, was hired to mix sound on the 1999 low-budget Trailer Park Boys movie when Clattenburg saw him fooling around on set and wrote him into the TV series as Bubbles.

Nobody, least of all the Boys themselves, ever expected the series would take off.

"Originally we were just hoping that some people would be flicking through the channels and kind of just pause and sort of wonder what the hell it was and continue to watch," said Wells. "But then it just kind of built from word of mouth I guess into this mainstream thing, which I definitely never expected or expected to be with this long."

The series has spawned fanatical fans, one of whom so desperately wanted to be on the show that he had himself delivered to the set in a huge crate, recalled Smith. "I think security beat him down and dragged him away."

The final one-hour TV special picks up where season 7 left off and features all the elements that have made the series such a cultural institution. There's an evil plot by Mr. Lahey, the alcoholic trailer park supervisor, and his greasy, shirtless, pot-bellied sidekick, Randy. There's the usual cast of supporting characters, including J-Roc the white rapper and Ray, Ricky's bootlegger father. And of course there's the Boys' latest harebrained get-rich scheme, as well as plenty of drugs, guns and swearing.

Expect more of the same in the upcoming feature film, Countdown To Liquor Day, the follow-up to the Ivan Reitman-produced 2006 feature, Trailer Park Boys: The Movie.

It's not exactly wholesome entertainment. But what the Trailer Park Boys has is "a lot of heart," argues Tremblay (Julian). "You strip the guns and swearing and stuff, and it's about family."

Wells agrees. "You've got all these characters basically and yes, maybe they're a little hardcore. But when it comes right down to it, I mean they really do seem to do the right things for their friends and family. The entire trailer park is basically a big family that will do anything for each other."

I'm still fucking sore from that ;)
Thanks for posting that Tiggy and in case you don't know my sense of humour, I wasn't the guy who delivered himself to the set.

Interesting

Indeed so.

I saw that Boondocks movie ages ago, Billy Connolly was in it I seem to recall (probably the reason I watched it, was that the one?) It was, erm, interesting. Robb's porno hmm, was it called Wild Gingers in the Ladies' Washroom? Seen it.

That's really fuckin' cool that they mention Mr. Show. As a kid growing up and learning how to remove the "blockers" (as I called them at the time) on my residential cable network, I quickly learned to love Mr. Show, I even used to program my VCR to tape it as it premiered live in the 90's as I had to sleep for school the next day. They are a big inspiration to me and is still funny as fuck to watch today. :)

I had no idea that the Boy's weren't aware of their ending, until basically the same time as us.  Kind of miffed that Clattenburg would do that to his old highschool buddies turned heart and soul of his claim to fame.  I guess I'm still taking the last episode tonight really hard *pours a dirty mug of Alberta Premium*  Well, regardless of the end, it looks like we have a kick ass new beginning to look forwards to around the early months of 2010!

Ah!  Thanks Shake, fuck I should have known better.  I've been reading newspaper articles all day and clearly I ran across a couple bogus ones.  I wasn't thinking I guess, as I read the articles all bleary-eyed, awaiting the special tonight :P

The door is closing on Canada's greatest hoser party. But don't worry -- a new ton of low-rent fun is on the horizon.

Much to the disappointment of devotees, the Trailer Park Boys TV series wrapped up last month with a final episode: "Say Goodbye to the Bad Guys." A Trailer Park Boys feature film is due out this fall -- after that, Canada's favourite dope-smoking numbskulls are on permanent hiatus.

The good news for those who adore the antics of Ricky, Julian and Bubbles is that the three actors are writing a new series.

"Tentatively, right now, it's called The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Fun-Time Hour. That's just a working title,'' said Robb Wells, a.k.a. Ricky.

Trailer Park Boys creator Mike Clattenburg -- who pulled the plug on the highly rated TV series after seven seasons -- is not part of the new project.

Wells said he, Julian (John Paul Tremblay) and Bubbles (Mike Smith) have already written five episodes of The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Fun-Time Hour.

The black comedy's first season will likely consist of six or seven episodes. Wells believes it will air this fall or early in 2010.

Rather than reprising their Trailer Park Boys characters, the trio will play different, multiple roles.

"That way, instead of getting one new version of each of us, you're getting five or six,'' Wells said.

On Trailer Park Boys he plays Ricky, a marijuana-puffing, generously side-burned wastrel who steers a ruined clunker (the "S--mobile'') and learns to read by examining labels on frozen food packages. Wells, Tremblay and Smith are currently touring a stage version of Trailer Park Boys.

"It's more or less a variety show,'' said Wells from Treasure Island, Fla., where he was vacationing with his girlfriend and daughter. "It starts out as a puppet show. Then it quickly gets derailed, just kinda turns into a big party. Lots of alcohol. Lots of crowd participation and stuff. Bubbles performs a couple of songs.''

The cast of Trailer Park Boys was reportedly surprised and disappointed when Clattenburg -- a friend since high school -- abruptly announced in November the series would end. On the phone, Wells said there was no falling out between Clattenburg and the cast, either before or after the move.

"No. We have to respect each other's decisions, I guess. It's been a lot of years. (Clattenburg) mentioned in season five or six that that might be the last year. He wants to move on and do some other things.''

What turned into a Canadian phenomenon started as a black-and-white movie, Trailer Park Boys, shot by Clattenburg a decade ago. His pals -- Wells and Tremblay -- played two goofy petty criminals. A producer saw the short film at the Atlantic Film Festival, and the popular Showcase TV series followed.

Before that, Wells and Tremblay had only acted in amateur comedy videos they created as a hobby. Before turning to showbiz full time, Wells (who was born in Moncton, N.B., and holds a business degree) ran a pizza restaurant/bar with Tremblay. The pizza joint was not particularly lucrative, he added.

That original Trailer Park Boys film was shot in a mock-documentary style, just like the TV show. It contains a scene in which the heroes are hired as "pet assassins.''

"Some people thought it was a real documentary, unfortunately,'' Wells recalled. "We were in Prince Edward Island one time and someone came up . . . They wanted us to take care of this dog that was driving them nuts next door.

"This guy came back, he actually had the money in his hand. I was like, 'You're joking, right?' He goes, 'No.' And then it got really awkward and weird. ''

While Wells insists that 90 per cent of the fans are nice people, some tend to forget that these actors are not the characters they play. Wells, for instance, is constantly handed joints by followers who believe he shares Ricky's lust for reefer.

This proved embarrassing when Wells once attended a function for a Trailer Park Boys season premiere.

"A fan was very adamant about giving me some weed and smokin' some weed with me. And I was with my grandmother at the time. She just couldn't comprehend what the hell was goin' on.''

Another curious bit of Robb Wells trivia: the Globe and Mail once reported that the actor and Prime Minister Stephen Harper are distantly related.

Wells says this is not true.

"My sister's actually a teacher, and she tried to trace it back. She couldn't find anything even close to being related to him,'' he said.

As for Harper, Wells noted: "I'm not overly a fan. That was the other thing that was kind of, uh . . . strange.''

Alright which one of you orgsters was it!!!   Kidding!    Ok I must confess I did hand Wells and Dunsworth 2 joints each in a Frisk container (before they changed  the design of it) at the New Years event they had here in 2006, but I'm not sure I would be offering it in front of his Gran.   Oh and yes they both took my lil gift....guess they were being sweet to a fan.   8)

I was on Showcase's website today and they have finally announced the official word that the boy's new show is going to air in November 2010.

http://www.showcase.ca/blog/archive/2009/11/12/the-boys-are-back-yes-those-boys.aspx

There's the link to an article and a video interview with JP, Robb and Mike.

I'm very pleased about this especially since the economy is shit still and I was worried that finances would roadblock new shows. Good on Showcase for picking up the show.
