How it began...

Toronto NOW magazine has a big interview with the Boys (and they are out of character too). Here's some news, and it sounds pretty fuckin' awesome...

"...They are also deep into development on a brand new series that could get the green light in the next few weeks.

It's called - are you ready for this? The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Fun Time Hour. It's actually a half-hour mockumentary series about Mike, Robb and John Paul, actors who used to be on a series called Trailer Park Boys.

"We're playing fake versions of ourselves as well as a whole bunch of other characters," says Wells.

The series was inspired by all the real-life shit that's happened to them - people always wanting to smoke dope with them would seem to be a continuing plot line - as well as Curb Your Enthusiasm and the British show the League Of Gentlemen.

"It's Curb Your Enthusiasm after it got smashed in the head with a hammer and force-fed liquor and drugs," says Smith, grinning broadly."


Oh yeah, and they confirmed the movie will be released in the US on January 25th 2008.

Excellent find!! I was quite skeptical when we heard that there might be some kind of other show, but a Curb-esque type show definitely has potential.

I'd like to see at least one episode about a bunch of crazed Org fans that came from all over North America, and Belgium, to party with them at their Premiere parties, but that is just me.

I can see this scene fitting in, us ORGies, stationed in Org Central for the Premiere weekend, catching them heading into Bubbles Mansion after their radio interview.  We knocked on the glass so they would look.  We also had our Org shirts hanging in the window, ha ha what fans we are!  You know, their radio interview where the crazed Org fans called in whilst driving aroud in vans and whatnot.

That would be hilarious to get an episode where people travel from all parts of the world to see them. It has to be one of the more remererable things... right?
Things like, them doing radio shows and people swearing at them at telling them to come to room 212 :P

I think it would be a pretty cool show. Its TPB... but not TPB at the same time.

Another cool thing would be if they kind of went behind the scenes and showed them "going to work" and show them shooting the show.

It would be nice to see them somewhat out of character (and with the possiblity of a new show any characters). I may have some difficulty watching this new show if it gets the green light. But it would be nice to have a behind the scenes show with them out of character. I know they play such beliavalbe characters that when seen in real life, people always associate their real lives with their character. I always have some sort of difficulty seeing the same actors in different character until I watch a few shows.

I hope they still make a season 8 of Trailer park boys. If this new show gets the green light I feel that probably trailer park boys will be given up becasue I think it would be difficult for the same actors to work on two complete seasons at once.

Yes you are awful. besides I think if i remeber correctly, spinoff shows don't usually do as well as the orginal shows.


I loved to podcast that they also gave with the article but it was difficult at times to tell what they were saying due to the background music.

SMG, I kind of agree with you on that but this mockumentary might have legs, depending on how they play it.

Reading the article makes it appear that a season eight is up to the folks at Showcase.

"Showcase continues to air repeats but has yet to make an official decision about an eighth season."

You would think that Showcase would like to keep one of their most popular shows running. Unless the boys are asking for too much money or something.

I hear ya SMG.  As much as I KNOW they are only playin' character's and that they are "real people" I'd have the same problem at first.  Don't know if it would get better as time goes on but I know it will be an issue for me as well.

What would be kinda neat is if they take the approach of the new show being about John Paul, Robb, Mike, et al making the TPB show and the shit they deal with in regard to fans, dealing with "the network" etc.  They could also throw in TPB "scenes" which could be like little skits that require no story arch or continuity.  Kinda keep up the mocumentory feel with the skits being them "doing their jobs" acting on the now now existant TPB show.

That would still be kinda fucked since in parts of the show the actors would be "themselves" and in other parts of the show they'd be their "characters" but it would be less of a stretch for me than if they were to play "new" characters.  This would be espeically true if they chose to pursue the new show AND continue making TPB specials and/or movies.

BTW - Tiggy you are NOT awful for lookin' forward to something new from these actors ;).

I think we will wait for the green light before we consider regestering for it.

Yes they have been typecast but I would have to watch it first. I usually feel uncomfortable watching people in new roles but it depends on how they act within them before I can determine if i like it.

Oh if anybody is able to find this out for me What is John Paul tremblays original Haircolour. I read somewhere as part of trivia questions that it was originally blonde and then died black for the series. To me I think it is black or otherwise they do a very good job dying it that they don't get the problem of blonde roots.
