So my wife is getting one of these given to her for a gift from work. Anyone know much about these things. I will do the Google thing but just thought I would ask you guys too.

Beautiful plumage.

What kind of info are you looking for Cappy ?  My sister has an African Grey and she loves it. But she has always been a bird lover. She has had "Joker" for over 10 years. Parrots are messy eaters, and a bit noisy, like Dieter said. You will have to put the sheet over the cage thing to sleep at night. This parrot is a great imitator and talks all kinds of shit  But if you would like I will sent my sister an e-mail with some specific questions if you have any.

Sybil Fawlty: Don't shout at me, I've had a difficult morning.
Basil Fawlty: Oh dear, what happened? Did you get entangled in the eiderdown again? Not enough cream in your eclair? Hmm? Or did you have to talk to all your friends for so long that you didn't have time to perm your ears?

Well we picked up a book and spent time with the owners to get some tips so I think we'll be ok. Thanks David. So far so good, so far all we get is some smoke detector beeps out of it. Fire words I'm working on when the wife isn't home..."Smokes, let's go.".

Should be fun Cappy. My sisters bird will not repeat stuff to your face right away. He always waits until hours later or the next day. Especially if no one is paying any attention to him. So I always say stuff like "Mom can you call for a pizza" etc.. So the next day he starts chattering and drives my sis nuts  I will have to talk a bunch of TPB lines next, she will love that  :P

As well it should, I'm a big Python fan and it is a direct reference to that skit.  I'd never actually buy a parrot, dead or alive  :P  They're nice to look at though, beautiful plumage.

I enjoy Python too.  Parrots, I have never actually met one but, I am sure they make very interesting pets.

 I was waiting for that. Thats my wifes idea of creative decorating. Not enough paint to do the whole wall so just throw it up in blotches.

Does your Parrot show a preferense for you or the wife?

Teh reason I ask is all the parrots I've ever known have attached themselves to one member of the family and can be quite territorial about them.
My friends bird loved her to bits and just hated her husband. The parrot would wait till Brian fell asleep on the coach and then swoop in for the suprise attack.

My BF used to have one as well...she was a complete bitch to anyone but him. It was awesome..she would just kick your ass if you came near her. Good times. :D

He seems to have taken a liking to my 14 yr old daughter. I'm ok with cause he'll keep the boys away from her when I'm not home. He doesn't seem to have a hate on for anyone yet really, but time will tell.

I have two budgies, which I think are like parrots, but only smaller.

I could be wrong.

Yea they're basically the same....colourful chatterboxes...like some of the girls at work  :perv1: :perv1: :perv1: :perv1:

I could use a parrot as I am a one legged person..honest.

Well we ventured back into the parrot world. Picked up a 3 yr old female for a great deal. $600 for the bird and deluxe cage. She seems shy but it getting relaxed. Will provide some pics soon.

I used to have a conure named Sam a while ago, he was awesome.

I've worked at pet stores before for years and have had to look after African Grey parrots for a while.  They are really intelligent birds and can be pretty affectionate.
