We only sucked hard the last couple of years, before that we could always be counted on to eliminate the Sens!

Shake, I met some "True Leafs fans" that prove your theory wrong about holding their head high through the hard times etc, etc. I watched all the Leafs / Bruins games with a large group of Leafs fans this year. All with their jerseys, hats on, even Blue Leafs tattoos on their arms, legs, etc. They only watch Leafs hockey, and no other hockey games... Yet they trashed Leafs players so hard, it was hateful to listen to!!! "OMG! SUNDIN IS A BIG BUM!!! THEY SHOULD OF TRADED HIM!!! OH KABERLE IS NOT LIVING UP TO HIS POTENTIAL!!! TUCKER IS WASHED UP!!!" You'd expect to hear this from the Bruins fans in the crowd, not the Leafs fans. Of course, this is just a isolated group, and do not represent all Leafs fans...

Back to Montreal... They carried themselves quite well during the riots last night!!! WTF?!?!?! What the hell are they going to do if they win the cup? Burn Montreal to the ground and decapitate Carey Price and Saku Koivu to show how much they appreciate them?!?!?! FHACK!

The legend of Carey Price continues.  And of Tom Kotsopolous too.  Great comeback for the Bleu Blanc et Rouge tonight.  It feels like 93 all over again.  OT wins.  Hot goaltending.

The legend of Carey Price continues.

The legend of the weak glove side. Too Bad I really wanted to see a Pens - Habs match up.

Looks like its going to be a PA Turnpike series if things continue as they are.

I might be one more bad goal from agreeing with you Walt.  Price has become very ordinary.  Some horrible decisions on his part, but that can be expected from a rookie.  I think he'll end up alright, but he had to get yanked last night.  He just needs to stay in his net, not worry about playing the puck, and make a few fucking saves.

The Habs need to remember that they were the top scoring team in the league and put a few pucks behind Biron who's playing better than I've ever seen him.  Montreal probably outchanced the Flyers by 15 in each of the last 2 games and he's won it by himself, with a little help from Price.

Don't be silly I don't watch the playoffs and wait for everyone else's team to lose, just the Habs!  That is during the years they actually make the playoffs, it wasn't all that long ago the Habs would miss the playoffs.   I'm used to the Leafs making the playoffs I got a bit spoiled there for a while.

Your Leafs thread was non existant without the other teams fans to cause shit.  The Leafs haven't done anything news worthy in the last decade.  Unless you count sucking hard every year.

Here is some news ! Remember, it's never to late to mend Mats. tee hee.

Leafs captain Mats Sundin continues to deliberate as clock ticks

*Taken from the Canadian Press

Cliff Fletcher got a phone call from Bob Gainey on Thursday.

Status quo on the Mats Sundin front, the Montreal Canadiens GM told the Toronto Maple Leafs GM. "Bob apprised me of how the situation was going from his perspective," Fletcher said Thursday. "I appreciated the call. We'll just have to wait it out."

Waiting it out is what both the Leafs and Habs are doing right now, not to mention Sundin's own camp.

"We had lengthy discussions with Mats last night," his agent J.P. Barry of CAA Sports said Thursday. "He still hasn't decided whether or not he wants to play next year. There really isn't anything any of us can do planning-wise until Mats makes the decision to play.

"I still believe strongly that he will play next year but I have to respect his timeline regarding his decision."

Gainey and Sundin had a 30-minute phone conversation Wednesday, and while the 37-year-old star centre is impressed with Montreal's interest and has great respect for the Canadiens GM, he still wasn't ready yet to meet him face to face. Not until he decides whether or not he's going to play again.

In the meantime, the clock keeps ticking towards next Tuesday's noon ET start to free agency, at which point the Canadiens lose their exclusive negotiating rights with the Swedish star. At which point Sundin is also no longer a Maple Leaf.

*insert smart ass Maple Leaf comment here*

Also, I received something very special in the mail from my Aunt Sue. A very historic piece if you will. For those who Je Me Souviens, this will delight you.

I thought about replying to this before but never got around to it, with the latest post in the thread it is topical again.  My point was that Habs fans were the lowest form of life on earth because they turned on Roy when he had one bad game, booed him, after he had single-handedly won two Stanley Cups for them.  Winning two cups for your team should buy you some leeway, but apparently not in MTL what with said scum of the earth for fans.  OD as a Bruins fan you will appreciate Cherry’s take on it, he couldn’t believe the MTL fans turned on Roy after all he did for the team.  He told the story of the time the great Bobby Orr scored on his own net.  The Garden went silent, ain’t no damn foo was going to razz Orr, he was fucking Bobby Orr for fuck sake, he also delivered two cups to his team.  Orr, in his trademark modesty hung his head down and returned to the bench, nobody wanted to say anything.  Cherry then said some wise fan, in an attempt to lighten the situation said, “that’s ok Bobby the goalie should have had it anyway”.  Now that is something I can respect, not the forum fans that razzed Roy for letting in all those goals.  When you deliver 2 cups you are past getting razzed.

It is ok for Leafs fans to complain about Sundin because, despite all his valiant efforts he has not, like Roy, single-handedly delivered 2 cups to his team.  If he did then Leafs fans would erect a statue to him and he would be untouchable, but we all know that is not the case.  When Mats did start with the Leafs he was a bit soft, but he did develop into a more gritty, heart player.  More importantly he was a clutch player, what with all those OT goals.  Of course though most of those goals were in the regular season.  Sundin was a great Leaf but he was no Sittler or Gilmour, or not one of the many great captains that hoisted the Cup over their head before 1968.  I do admire his want to stick with the Leafs but he would have served the team better if he allowed the trade at the deadline.  The Leafs need to rebuild, we should have got drafts and prospects for him!   There’s nothing Sundin can do for us now at his advanced age.

I kind of hope that he does go with the Habs, let them weaken themselves with an aging Swede.  I hoping the Leafs realise the road to glory means stocking the team with good young Canadian prospects.

I have to disagree with the Roy aspect of your post Shake.  The fans always turn on anyone they feel isn't giving 100%.  I watched that game, against the Red Wings I think, and the coaches should have pulled him way sooner.  Roy got pissed at management and the team was forced to trade him.  The fans might have booed, but they were booing the entire team for sucking horse balls.

Should they have traded him?  Fuck no.  But he told Ronald Corey that he had played his last game as a Canadien.

I'm not sure what to think about Sundin possibly coming to the Habs.  Part of me says woohoo, the other part says, poor Leafs fans will never come around for that, but they're already 40 years into a drought, what's another 40.

Oh and fuck Don Cherry and his Leafs/Bruins hardon.

They razzed Roy, when he made an easy stop they cheered him, which drove him insane.  Obviously it wasn't his night, and yes he should have been pulled early on.  The fans should have understood that and not made him feel worse.

It's a grey area...ambiguous. How much control do you give someone and how much do you give in yourself? You can't base your past performance, only the show you put on at the time. Gord Downey is going to suck at some point in time in his singing career but at what time do you boo him? Gotta be there.

Oh yeah, the Habs would be lucky to get Sundin. It would be the only reason I would cheer for them. Glad I got to see Lanny hoist the cup even 'though it was with the flames...IN MONTREAL :P

Thanks for the clarification.  I think in the case of Roy he could have been forgiven for having one bad night.  The razzing by the hometown fans upset him and when he finally was pulled he told Corey it was his last game as a Hab.  Roy went on the more glory and more Cups while the Habs never came close to the Cup again.  I think if Habs fans had to do it over they would have granted Roy more leeway.  I'm glad they didn't, they don't deserve any more glory, what with them being the scum of the Earth and whatnot.
