Obviously no-one deserves to be assaulted, but how this is myspace's fault is beyond me.

A 14 YEAR-OLD girl who claimed she was sexually assaulted by a man she met on MySpace.com has launched a $30 million lawsuit against its operators.

The lawsuit is critical of the fact Myspace does not verify the age of its users and calls measures in place to stop grizly old geezers grooming sweet young things as "utterly ineffective." The suit alleges Myspace fails in its duty to protect minors.

A lawyer representing the girl's family told reporters, "MySpace is more concerned about making money than protecting children online."

The girl and her family filed the suit against Myspace owner News Corp as well as the 19 year-old accused of fiddling with her.

The girl gave out her mobile phone number to the bloke after she met him on the site. She says that after the pair went out one time to see a film and have a bite to eat, he drove her to a car park and sexually assaulted her.

And that's Myspace's fault.

I disagree.  I think sites like this need to make some changes.  It's not 100% Myspace and 30Million ridiculous but some of the blame does fall on MySpace.  Any type of publicly accessible media needs to have safe guards in place.

MySpace/youtube and others have become places for old men to scope out under aged girls/guys dancing while in just their underpants and maybe a bra.

Warnings from parents are don't always work.  A kid who thinks she/he is in love will do most anything.  Like a story I saw recently, a young lady (14) was about to get on a plane to meet her 15 old lover.  He lived in Africa., he was also of 30.

If I have kids these sites will be the first on the -you ain't surfin there' list.

I think only a small portion of the blame should lay on myspace. If parents arent monitoring what their kids are getting up to on the internet then they should'nt be surprised when their kid goes off to meet someone they met on the internet. I mean, not that I don't feel sorry for the girl or anything, but it's not Myspace's fault that she was dumb enough to go and meet someone she had only talked to on the phone/internet without someone with her. And yeah $30million is a ridiculous amount and I don't think they'll win it...keep us updated if you can though J_W.


Why can't people just do happy things on the internet like post of a Trailer Park Boys forum or something ?  ;)

"MySpace forbids youngsters 13 and under from joining and provides special protections for those 14 and 15 - only people on their list of friends can view their profiles. Older users also have the option of restricting certain personal data so it can be seen only by people they have identified as friends."

I tried finding more articles on this particular story, but I haven't found any as of yet, so if this is true, would that not mean that she lied about her age to make her profile viewable? Like I know when I'm not logged in I can't see Refuck's profile. I also know they have an option that you can't request to be added to people's friends lists without entering some code that the person that has the myspace account gives you. So really what else can they do?

I agree with J_W.. I firmly believe that MySpace has taken all steps necessary.. its up to the girls idiot parents.. who quite frankly OBVIOUSLY don't care what their daughter does online.. to MONITOR THE SITES SHE GOES TO... Sheesh..

How any of this should be blamed on MySpace is beyond me.. but once again... another bunch of moron parents who are too scared to take the blame of bad parenting and solely but the blame on somebody else... this case.. on MySpace.

This is almost as bad as the woman who put a joke finger in a hamburger from Wendy's and tried to sue them.. HOW STUPID ARE PEOPLE THESE DAYS!?!

And how the fuck did a 14 year old girl... walk past her parents and go visit this old man, anyway? "Mom! I met this guy online! We're going to a family!"   "Okay, hun! Have fun!"

People like this make me sick... but of course.. one bunch of morons usually ruins it for all of us.. :x

She put a joke finger into a hamburger at Wendy's and tried to sue Wendy's by taking them to court.. guess it never occured to the absolutely fucking gullible staff at Wendy's to realize that it was a rubber finger..

Anyway.. obviously she lost the court case.. and must have felt pretty fucking foolish...

Now.. see.. McDonalds... THATS an other story.. because half their food is unhealthy.. it wouldn't be a stretch to put something in one of their burgers...

Heck.. my mom ate at a McDonalds and found ants on the lettuce on her burger.. like... real ants.. walking...  :shock:

Hence why I prefer my own meals! I'm a master chief! Uhh.. I mean CHEF...  :D

Actually it was a real finger in a bowl of chili. She got some jail time out of the incident, too.

Its a bizarre story all the way around. A friend of the womens husband lost his finger in an on the job accident. He either sold them the finger outright or was promised a cut of the settlement.

...Wait... this says NOTHING about HER putting the finger in the meal herself... So where is all this info about her possibly buying the finger coming from?

They stated that they think the finger came from a food processing plant that delivers the food to the Wendy's restaurants....  :?

Another example of bad parenting and people not taking responsibility for their own actions. Of course no one deserves to be assaulted and she wasn't asking for it, but a little common sense on the internet goes a long way. It's always someone else's fault. :roll:
