I know I'll get blasted for this, but I want to see how many people believe that ignoring a world threat will make it go away. It might work in grade school, but it won't work in the real world.

I don't understand your poll.  I assume you are talking about Iraq.  Iraq is not a world threat.  If it is, they've done a damn fine job of hiding its weapons of mass destruction.  At this point, all the war in Iraq is doing is creating civil unrest and more foot soldiers for Al Qaeda and the rest of the jihadists.

Oh, and this:  http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182

Talk about throwing good money after bad.

In terms of the world's safety, I'm more worried about the intentions of North Korea's batshit-crazy leader.

Whats not to understand? I made it as simple as possible. Do you think that a complete withdrawl of UN forces from Afghanistan and Iraq will make the threat of terrorism go away?

North Korea is no more or less of a threat than the leaders of Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran. All of these countries have stated that they wish to see the destruction of the West(yes, they mean Canada, too). But because N. Korea has nukes they are more of a threat? I fail to see your reasoning behind this.

Maybe you should have been more clear in your poll because I don't see any mention of UN forces and terrorism.  I believe the US is there for another reason - and yes, it's my personal opinion and you don't have to agree with it.

In any event, and in my opinion, the jihadists will continue to wreak havoc for their own selfish purposes.  Whether the UN forces pull out now or later, the jihadists don't care.  Terrorism will go on; it's the only way these neanderthals think they'll get their point across in convincing people to live their way of life.  I once heard someone compare a terrorist to the carnival game "Whack-a-Mole" - crush one and another pops up in its place.

As such, IMHO, the world's safety is not affected if military is yanked from Iraq and I mentioned why in my previous post.

Yes, nukes are a little more threatening than suicide bombers.

Oh, and thanks for advising me that Canada is part of the west.  I would never have thought of that on my own.  :P

Actually , your poll says " make the world safer? " , not " make the threat of terrorism go away? " . That is the big difference in our way of thinking. Do I think that it would make the world safer ? Probably , at least no more dangerous! IMHO the situation is INSPIRING Terrorists  ! Do I think that it will make the threat of terrorism go away? No , I believe that as long as multinational corporations , and self appointed "world police / bullies" continue to Fuck with other countries , there will always be terrorism. The world has ALWAYS been a dangerous place . The US is a fuckin' dangerous place  ! How many Americans kill each other each year with guns? How many arms manufactureres are there in the world , pumping out LAND MINES? Should some country decide to make strategic strikes on any town that has a factory making Land Mines . That would sure make the world a safer place. How is the life of a child in a country peppered with mines , manufactured in the US , any less important than the life of an office worker in the Twin Towers?

Here is a quote from New United States Policy on Landmines:
" the military capabilities provided by landmines remain necessary for the United States military to protect our forces and save lives."

The U.S. exported over 5.6 million antipersonnel mines to at least thirty-eight countries between 1969 and 1992. The U.S. still has the third largest stockpile of antipersonnel mines in the world, more than 11 million, including stocks in twelve foreign countries, five of which have signed the Mine Ban Treaty.

I call this terrorism! If I lived in a country with mines in it's fields , I would be terrorised! Does this give that country  the right to come to the US and bomb the fuck out of them?

Well stated, Saucy, Well stated!

I personally I'm kinda getting tired of all these war polls and war talks and stuff going on the ORG.. I mean..sure.. I know the world is going to hell.. but its kinda depressing logging in here to constantly see people yapping on and on about terrorists and terrorism..

I'm sure that if I wanted to hear endless talk about terrorists, I'd turn on CNN.. But I don't.. therefore.. I, personally, will not be answering that poll.. sorry.  :)

No offense but obviously this is something that concerns all of us and if you don't want to particpate in the discussion then don't. And this is not all we "yap" about either, it just happens to be a major concern and interesting discussion for all of us at this point and frankly I find it fascinating to learn and hear about everyone's views on the subject, whether I agree with them or not.

J_W... you totally misunderstood me..

I'm not being ignorant to people's views.. I'm just stating that I personally have no say in the matter..

Obviously I'm interested somewhat or I wouldn't have agreed with Saucy..

But constantly thinking about the future of Canada.. and whether we will all be nuked or killed by terrorists before its our time to ACTUALLY die.. DOES depress me..

Please don't get hostile with me, as that is my personal view.. everyone is entitled to an opinion.. and that is mine. I will still read and be interested in people's views.. obviously.

I'm not getting hostile with you period, so please don't insinuate that I am, and if i was trust me you'd know it. I'm giving my opinion about your comments in this thread and in the others on this subject.

And now back to the topic at hand, ET you lost me too my friend and I'd have to agree with Becca and Saucy on this one because the U.S. has dug their own grave on a lot of these issues. You can't be a major supplier of  several different types and means of war devices to these countries and then turn around and say well that's not ok now because you're not willing to do what we want you to do. And that's exactly what I see happening here.

I cant vote in your poll because its a false question... Sorry to be the one to say it, but the UN is not in the middle-east. Maybe if they were, with a peaceful mandate it would help things. America is acting unilaterally, with its coalition of the willing... remeber? Just curious how you could be so passionate about the subject and then space the fact that the UN is not in the MiddleEast.

What part of the middle-east are UN troops fighting a war???

I'll vote if you re-word your poll to reflect the real situation

         cheers for your enthusiasm

Trailer On The Lake  , great point. I didn't really know that the UN wasn't there , but kinda suspected...

I voted with the answer closest to what  believed.......

Huntsville Bubbles , I see your point , but we can only talk about our favorite TPB moments , movies , shows , songs  so many times before it gets too stale . We need fresh lively discussion , to keep things interesting , especially in the "off season" . Unfortunately , the majority of fresh  stuff to discuss is current events , ie: War and Politics , often depressing and hot button issues. I love analyzing the episodes , especially on sunday nights in April and May , but I would tend to drift away , if there was nothing new to discuss for the 10 remaining months....

I had it worded very simply, but becca said she didn't understand the question. So I re-worded it and people still don't get it.

Huntsville Bubbles, if you don't have anything relevant to say..............

Saucy, with all due respect, this is not a question of who sold who what. It is a very simple poll that asked a yes or no question.

Ok, Would the threat of world terrorism end if the US and all other occupying forces pulled their troops out of the Middle East?

Hows that?

UN is in the Middle East. They were behind the Afghanistan Mission, but not The Iraq Mission, there the US and some allies acted unilateraly.

Fact is the UN is already urging other countries to step up in Afghanistan once Canada's current commitment expired, as they still back this mission.

UN is also negotiating with Iran on the Nuke situation. Currently there is no threat of an attack, but they are involved.

So the UN is in the Middle East.

Since I can't word this so everybody understands the point I'm trying to make  . I will utter this disclaimer:

This was not a thread intended to start yet another debate, it was designed to get a clear view  on how deluded some people are. It is a simple question that requires a yes or no answer. Some people find it necessary to turn all these types of threads into a personal pulpit from which they preach the evils of the United States. STFU or stick to the topic, please.

" it was designed to get a clear view  on how deluded some people are. "

So the question was designed "clearly" to get the answer you wanted? ... Kinda like a loaded question, not very fair or unbiased eh!?

The US is a fuckin' dangerous place  ! How many Americans kill each other each year with guns?

Exactly how much time have you spent in the USA? Must be years to have formed such a strong opinion about the dangers of the US. I lived there for 35 years, the last 10 in the downtown area of a good sized midwestern city. I'm not dead, I never had to use the .45 Glock I had a permit to carry.  As far as gun deaths in a year, lets clarify that. There are all different classifications of gun deaths. Suicide, accidents, cops killing criminals, criminals killing criminals, homeowners killing criminals, business owners killing criminals.

1. Suicide. Lets face it, if you're gonna do it, do it right. Eat a bullet.
2. Accidents. They happen. Whether it's a cleaning mistake or a hunting mishap.
3 Cops killing criminals. Isn't this what we honest law-abiding citizens expect from the police?
4.Criminals killing criminals. I say have at.This is where the inflated gun death numbers come from. 95% of gun deaths are drug related, black on black crime.
5.Homeowners killing criminals. Again, have at it. Your home is your castle and killing the scumbag eliminates the need for a costly trial.
6, Business owners killing criminals. See above, the same logic applies.

Very rarely is an innocent person killed by a gun during a homicide.

I'm 100% positive that I could find parts of Toronto and Vancouver that are just as dangerous as parts of Atlanta or Chicago.

I would have to say no, i had a whole semester about war on terrorism and the U.S and the troops have 20% to do about the war, they are already in war, let them fight their war and lets not get involved too much(The U.S). All i got to say.
