Things that bring me happiness
« on: May 28, 2006, 03:26 PM »
I thought that we had a thread along these lines somewhere , but I searched and searched , and we have a few of the opposite , but no threads devoted to things that we like. Considering  the perceived negative vibes floating around here lately , I thought it would be nice to have a thread devoted to the thinks that bring smiles to your faces , and a warm feeling in your soul...

What really inspired this thread , is the new growth on pine trees at this time of year. You know , those thin , almost needleless fingers poking up , one larger one in the middle? I always think that the tree is flipping me the bird ! These picture don't show it as well as the trees in my neighbourhood , but I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about....

What else?
The warm feeling that I get when my kids tell me that they love me.

Working on my Christmas Tree Farm , watching the trees take shape , year after year ,           getting closer to the day that they will beautify peoples living rooms.

A sunny day , after a morning of rain , or a rainy day , after weeks of sun ( especially the smell that come with it)

Returning to the coast , after being more than 100 miles away , the first  hint that you get that you're getting close , is the unmistakable smell of the salt water , that you only notice when you've been away.

The first plump blackberry of the year.

Swimming on a moonless night , in the ocean , in the summer , the phosphorescence makes the water look like cold fire.

The anticipation , 1/2 hour before the first episode of a new season of Trailer park Boys.

Ladies , in their new summer clothes.

Good thread Saucy and here's one for  :beermug: for starting it  :6paper:

(and I knew that summer ladies clothing comment HAD to be in here as soon as I started reading this thread).

Vodka makes me happy, although it wasn't making me too happy yesterday LOL

I think one of the happiest moments I have is, spending time with my neices and nephews - seeing their faces on x-mas morning is a joy like no other, making them cookies and I'll never forget the time, when I got told I was the "bestest auntie in the world" for bringing my nephew a pack of smarties. The may have little hands and drive you crazy some days, but damn they sure have big hearts and let you know it.

How are you doing Fishy?

i am usually pleased but some of the things that make me really happy are

seeing the sun and seeing the flowers grow ( even though it makes me sneeze like an SOB this time of year)

everytime my daughter smiles at me and gives me big hugs

opening a fresh can of pepsi and getting that brain freeze from the first gulp (my frisge is set really cold...hehe)

oh and anything to do with food....food ALWAYS makes me happy

I got another to add. Bear Chasing! I know it sounds crazy , and I should just make a better enclosure for my garbage can , but I do get such a rush from chasing them away! I've had 3 such incidents in the last month. The latest was last night. I managed to get on it before the garbage can had gone too far. The bear got foiled by a fence , so I lay in wait on our deck , waiting to throw a stick at it , but it thrashed it's way through some netting , and headed for the neighbours yard. I ran around the house , just in time to give it some encouragement to get over the fence faster! The sound they make is soo funny, like a cross between a cow and a dog.
Usually , I find them on the front steps , not wanting to leave , so I throw my work boots at them. The time before , it was 2 , the time before that it was a little one , it fell off the gate 4 times befor it got over , funny stuff.
I've been doing it since I was a young kid , and , so far , I've always come out grinning!
If I suddenly disappear from the Org , with no notice , check the News.....

sweet flying fuck saucy, I need to take you with me when I go camping around here. so long as you don't mind sitting outside in the cold waiting/watching for bears to chase :)

Good thread Sauce-man!

{and timely too ;)}

Hmm...in no particular order things that make me happy:

My son. He's the joy of my life. I love every little thing about him.

Chocolate.

My niece who is 15 months old. This kid is an absolute little spitfire. A girl on the go...a baby with a mission only known too her! It's a joy to see such a zest for life.

Waking up next to my sweetie in the morning.

My garden.

Hockey.

Football Sundays.

Earl grey tea.

My sobriety.

Fishy

I'm glad I can make you happy Fishy! I have to reiterate that I was so touched that you cared enough to check up on mother & I when we got to Halifax, that was so nice!  :D

Here's a couple of things that make me happy:
Getting to hang out with my sisters & having them treat me like a sister rather than another adult that they have to censor themselves around (they are 17 & 14).
Something that made me super happy about a month ago at the first birthday party of my friend's neice; previously she only gave me mistrustful looks & only came to me after spending a bit of time playing, but this time she walked right over to me & gave me a big hug as soon as she saw me!  :hugs:

  I know , he hates Bears!!

:D With that wide open mouth , toothless grin!!

Earl grey tea.

Mmmm , I love that bergamot flavour! We prefer the "Stash" brand , the individual foil packages lock that flavour in!!

My sobriety.

Good on ya! I love sober people (except Trailer Park Boys , then they're hilarious )

My sobriety.

Yay me too TC my sobriety  :D Five years this past January for me :dancing:

A nice warm summer day, especially at sea when the ocean is smooth as glass. Looking down and seeing a school of dolphins following along the bow of the boat.

A nice clear evening camping out in the mountains just listening to the sounds of nature and all of the various critters that come out at night. Then looking at a star filled sky. Without the lights of the city to block the majority of them out.

Steak on the BBQ cooked just right

A nice fresh slice of Key Lime pie.

Sybil Fawlty: Don't shout at me, I've had a difficult morning.
Basil Fawlty: Oh dear, what happened? Did you get entangled in the eiderdown again? Not enough cream in your eclair? Hmm? Or did you have to talk to all your friends for so long that you didn't have time to perm your ears?

When someone says "I appreciate it" and means it

The first sip of cold, sweet beer at the end of a long, hot day (looking forward to that later!)

Laughing so hard tears roll down your cheeks

Happy dogs playing in the park

Crisp, fresh, BritishColumbia spring country air makes me feel really happy and really alive. There is NOTHING like the air here, its worth a trip out west just to inhale our air.

And babies. I love babies. They bring me happiness too.
