I play fiddle/violin. Its a family tradition. My family immigrated to America from Ireland in the 1950's and Grandpa brought his fiddle. Mom plays it, I play it...I took formal violin lessons too for about 10 years.
I also play guitar. My uncles (mom's brothers) had an amazing band. When my one uncle died, he said he wanted me to have his 1977 Fender Stratocaster. It has a solid Ash body with natural finish, one piece Maple neck and fret-board, and hard-tail bridge. It is beautiful. My uncle worshiped at the alter of Clapton and he loved that guitar. I also have my brother's Fender Squier bass guitar. My very own guitar is a 1989 (American) Fender Strat. I will admit to buying it TOTALLY based upon the colour...it is a blueish/purple and at the time, I was just smitten with it. (I bought it used in '93.)
My two oldest play too. My 9 year old plays guitar, and wants to pick up a brass instrument or even the bass drum in 4th grade orchestra this year. My 7 year old is a drummer. I was so glad he was instantly smitten with the drums. He is deaf in one ear. It was a match made in heaven. They are still using some cheap-o instruments right now (we wanted to make sure they stuck with it.) we are thinking Santa might bring them some decent ones.
The husband played guitar and saxaphone back in the day. He can still play guitar...sax, not so much.
