Travels with Evil/The return of Evil
« on: Apr 16, 2006, 01:03 PM »
Well my first bit of travelling since arriving in Denmark over 8 months ago will be...............back to the USA!!! My 97 year old grandfather passed at 6:15am EDT 4/16/06. So I gotta fly back to the US for the funeral. I'm leaving this coming Friday, the 21st. I'll be stateside for a little over a week. Just when my body gets used to being here........... :?

No need to be to sympathetic, my grandpa was not a particularly nice person and he only did today what he'd been telling he was doing for 30 years. Dying.

White Castle and Skyline Chili here I come!!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather ET.  Wow, 97 years..that's a long time, I hope that I could live somewhat close to that age.

97! That's a ripe old age....Too bad it didn't happen last week , then you could have taken a side trip to Halifax  :?

He would've turned 98 in October. Born in 1908, he was in the US Cavalry(still has his service revolver)saw the automobile go from a passing fad to mainstream, radio to b&w TV to Color TV to cable. Not to mention the airplane, he never flew in his life BTW

hey dude whereabouts in Indiana are you traveling to?

I'll be in Cincinnati, Ohio actually. We'll talk later this week. Meet up in Indiana somewhere.

I'd be lying if I said that I didn't have that same thought.

Have a safe trip Evil. Too bad he couldn't have enjoyed the last years of his life, I've witnessed a bit of that myself  - it's good lesson though, I guess, about optimism.

If I ever get to 97, I hope my family have the decency to build me a robotic exoskeleton. With temperature control and laser guided thingamawhosits and FM radio/digital clock. And if the train ticket inspectors bother me about the expiry on my welfare card, I could just crush them with my pneumatic arms. Then I could rearrange him like a party balloon into the shape of a puppy dog and give it to a small child or an adoring onlooker. Then people would all cheer, I expect.. Being 97 is gonna be awesome!   :P

 @ StoneChimes post. Good stuff man. My grandpa drove himself everywhere he needed to go up until about 4 years ago. The realization hit him when he hit my brothers car backing out of my driveway. He went to his office everyday up until about 2 months ago. As my father said, he had two redeeming qualities. He amassed a lot of money and he left it all to his 3 children, my dad and and his two sisters. The will is pretty simple. It's going to be split 3 ways with my dad and his sisters each getting 1 million dollars within 60 days of his death. My dad is going give me $10,000 dollars when he gets his million with more to come when the estate is settled. He was probably worth about 25 million and there is also a shit load of property and a profit producing business to sell. All told it could be 30+ million. My daughter will have a trust fund started for her with my dad putting $10,000 a year(tax free)into it. In the words of Dave Chappelle "I'm rich(almost), Biatch!!!!!"

Don't book that flight just yet, it could be 2 or 3 years before I get my fortune. Truthfully I'll probably get enough to buy a modest 4 bedroom house and a new car. The rest will be put into trust for me, which I'll likely get when I'm my dads age, 65. I plan on a trip to Australia so you better sweep out the chicken coop. :D

De-silt a water tank? Are you mad? I'll be travelling with an entourage of at least 10 people so I'll need lots of space. I'll fax my list of demands prior to my arrival.

Seriously folks thanks to all that have offered kind words and support. I'll be leaving this coming  Friday and be gone for a week. I may be moving back to the US permanently in a few years  due to the ridiculous requirements that the Danish govt. has set in place for me.

ET go home ......... lol j/k man ;o)

Mmmmm ......White Castle (can you ship some of those little burgers up to Canuckland while you're there?) those are tasty little buggers!

--- we need a Homer drool smilie!

Sorry to hear about your grandfather ET, but sounds like he had a long and ummm ....... should I say full-filling life? My grandfather was a grouchy old bastard too, but my Nona always made up for it, the grouchier grandpa was the more we could "blackmail" Nona with LOL so him being a grouch wasn't all that bad, well unless I had to sit in a room with him for more than 5 mins hehehe ;o)

But when he was in the hospital and actually said some nice things to me about what I accomplished in life, I lost all the anger toward him (not sure if it was anger) and thought to myself, "wow the old bastard actually cared about what I did and paid attention". Some people just choose to be miserable and they wouldn't if it didn't work for them in some way (best thing I learned from Dr. Phil LOL).

Sorry again ET ;o)

What kinda shit do they (Danish Govt) require?
I forgot , is your wife Danish? and if so what does she think of the possibility of moving?

My wife is Danish and she's willing to move back for the right reasons.

The govt. here is requiring me to learn Danish, not a big deal except that we were under the impression that it was a free course. It's not, they want $8000 over the course of 3 years,4 if I take night classes which I almost certainly will. If I take day classes I won't be able to work. the Bottom line is they don't want foreigners in their country so they make it as difficult as possible for people like me. If I was a refugee I would have all this shit handed to me on silver platter.

The other issue is whatever money I get from my grandpas estate the Danish govt. will want to collect tax on, after I pay tax on it in the US. Sorry, I ain't being taxed by a government that doesn't let me vote.

Nothing is written in blood yet, but all indications are that I will be moving back in a year or two.

A remarkable business man he was.

"Yet, boredom soon drove him back into business. He bought A. Topicz & Sons in 1985, and continued to work until shortly before his death."

Do you know EvilTwin that when I worked for Seneca Paper in Rochester NY, I remember sending Direct paper orders to them, they would print it, and then ship it to our clients. Pretty neat eh?

Be safe on your trip here. And remember.....Don't tell customs you brought any Pepperoni !!!!!!
