I know what you mean. The law book is especially painful. How do lawyers do it? Hang in there.

Clive Cussler
Trojan Odyssey
A Dirk Pitt novel (paperback)

It's a bit of a struggle, but I tend to fall asleep whenever I even read a magazine these days.  I just love how he bases all of his "marine archeology" novels on facts  :D

It may also be noted that Mr. Cussler frequents the maritimes, both in search of lost shipwrecks (mostly his NUMA crew of scientists and experts he assembles these days), and also the program "The Sea Hunters" is (was?) filmed in Nova Scotia  :)

http://www.numa.net/

Hubby is a huge Cussler fan, I have read a couple but ..meh... not my kind of novel.  Kind or reminded me of Harlequin Romance (for guys) meets James Bond...what I mean by that is they seem to be very formulaic to me, but then again what author isn't like that.

Lately I am into crime novels...  Mostly John Lescroart, right now I am more than half way thru The Second Chair.  Like Cussler's novels they have a "regular cast" of characters...like a TV series.

You are right p_s... a few of The Sea Hunters shows were based out of Halifax.  BIO (Bedford Institute of Oceanography) to be exact.  If you are crossing the Mac Kay Bridge (the new bridge) and look down toward the basin... The buildings you see almost directly below the bridge is BIO.  I should dig thru my pics..  I am sure I have at least one pic of tha place....

<==  off to root thru the hard drive for pics....
My God...what a drunk horror show!

LOL, you are right about the "formula", I think it might also have something to do with my struggle to finish this one...

'Look forward to the pix, I'm still up in the air about where to honeymoon this summer, Vegas or Halifax...Vegas would be loads of fun, Halifax (and surroundings) has so much history and fascinating things (to me) about it...'course Vegas is cheaper...

We went for the good old honeymoon capital of the world "Niagra Falls".    We went in October(when we were married) and it was the best,  it wasn't the tourist season and so there were no line up's and with the fall colors it was really amazing(and the fact that I had never been there before made it even more special). We are hoping to go again this year on our anniversary.

We spent our first "dating" anniversary in Niagara Falls, and again for our eighth last summer.  I love Niagara Falls.  So lucky to live so close to it, too, only about a 40 minute drive.  Last place I worked before now we had a sales conference at one of the Fallsview Hotels...that was so cool...sit through an all-day presentation, eat, walk to the falls, back to the hospitality suite at the hotel get drunk...good times

And, of course, we're getting married there this summer at a tiny little "Vegas style" chapel, no less  :)

I read natural history books that would probably have the majority of you passed out in your own drool within 15 pages  :P

I collect antique science books, with my oldest printed in 1857.  My favorite antique author is William Beebe, inventor of the Bathysphere and first to see the glow in the dark nightmare fish of the abyss in person.  For modern authors I love the recently deceased Steven Jay Gould most.

Last finished was an excellent book called Gorgon by Peter Ward, which has recently made the news for it's revolutionary look at the "Time of the Great Dying".  Gothic Paleontology!

For fiction I love things a bit pulp/campy.  H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Rice Burroughs for me!  With a dash of Lewis Carrol, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, and L. Frank Baum (Oz series).

Did I mention somewhere else that I am a certified NERD?  -at last count I had more than 20 books with the word "Dinosaur" somewhere in the title.

I spent my honeymoon in Niagara Falls in October 02.  It was great.  Not too many tourists, fairly cheap hotels, no lineups.  The wine country was awesome in the fall.
Now they got 2 casinos.

"I was in Nashville, Tennesee last year, after the show I went to a Waffle House, I'm not proud of it, but I was hungry. And I'm alone, I'm eating and I'm reading a book, right? Waitress walks over to me, "Tch tch tch tch. Hey, what you readin' for?" Is that like the weirdest f'king question you've ever heard? Not what am I reading, but what am I reading for. Well, godammit, you stumped me. Why do I read? Well... hmmm... I guess I read for a lot of reasons, and the main one, is so I don't end up, being a f'king waffle waitress. But then... this trucker in the next booth gets up, stands over me, and goes, "Well, looks like we got ourselves a reader." What the fack's going on here? It's not like I walked into a clan rally in a Boy George outfit, godammit, it's a book!" - the late great Bill Hicks

It has a charming old bookplate with the owners name.  I love bookplates, I should order some for my own collection.  Something classy.  I'd go look at it but my antiques are being stored until I find someone burly enough to get my 6ft oak bookcase up two flights of stairs...  I NEED MORE MEN!  Furniture lifters please!

And I have to wait until someone can pull an 8ft mahogany breakfront up here before I can break out my 1911 Brittanicas too...

Hint for award winners with photo editing software.  Take the bottom left corner of the award photo.  Hit "copy".  Paste it in a new window.  Then hit "mirror" or "flip horizontal" or whatever your programs command is.  Hit copy again, and paste it onto the bottom left corner of the certificate.  You will now have a seamless border with no watermark, and a ready to print image that looks surprisingly like a real award certificate.  Mine's above the computer now!  Hey RNC where did you get that program?  I think I know a grumpy old forum that could use an awards ceremony.

Thanks for the tip. I'm glad you liked the award. :D The program I used, SmartDraw 7, can be found here:

It's only a 30 day trial version, but it suited my immediate needs.

Next sneaky tip (might not work on all OS's) - save the original trial version installer in someplace safe.  Let your time expire.  Uninstall the program.  Turn your computer clock back to before the time you first installed the program.  Reinstall.  Enjoy 30 more days.  Ad infinitum.

Some programs have gotten smart to this in recent years but it's always worth a shot.  I'll mess around with this one a bit.

And I find that Russia is a paradise of passwords too.  Yo Ho Ho.

Ah ha! I knew this thread had to exist somewhere...

I am currently reading Ulysses by James Joyce.

Favorite books:

Every couple of years I re-read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy because I love them and because I'm a geek.

I love re re re reading Tolkien!

Currently I am reading a great comedic adventure called Sick Puppy by Carl Hiaasen . It's about an eco terrorist in Florida , battling against litterbugs and land developers.

I am also trying to finish Book #5 in the Harry Potter series before # 6 comes out (in a few days). I read at least 2 chapters a day to my boys ( 5 and 7). They love it (duuuuh) and I'm actually quite absorbed in it too!

HEY MODS!

Why is this thread not in "General" ? I don't know what motivated me , back in september , to put it here , but it should be moved!

Well I like to read alot. For Fiction I have read all of the Stephen King and Louis L'Amour books. I have also read many books by Arthur C. Clakre, Micheal Crichton, and Larry McMurtry. For Non-Fiction I love to read History and more History.

Sybil Fawlty: Don't shout at me, I've had a difficult morning.
Basil Fawlty: Oh dear, what happened? Did you get entangled in the eiderdown again? Not enough cream in your eclair? Hmm? Or did you have to talk to all your friends for so long that you didn't have time to perm your ears?
