This is kind of a tired subject, but I'll play. If Showcase decided to have a couple of volunteer mods, and if they gave mods the ability to instantly trace ISPs and delete posts and freeze a problem posters account, then yes, for sure it could be a civilized place where members are respected and "F" stand for FUN & FELLOWSHIP - not FIGHTING & FLAMING. I vote YES.

I'm going to have to vote maybe...
Maybe with the authority that Ben's mentioned, it would cut down on the amount of BS thats going on there now. However, as I said before, trolls will be trolls. If they're persistant enough, they'll always finds ways around whatever roadblocks you put in place. It only makes it more of a challenge (fun) for them.
The only way you're going to get rid of the trolls is to ignore them, and hope they find someone else to bother.

Ok Julian sed:" However, as I said before, trolls will be trolls. If they're persistant enough, they'll always finds ways around whatever roadblocks you put in place. It only makes it more of a challenge (fun) for them."
How about this - you try some troll stuff - you could be like target practice  ! (your isp would be contacted right away - maybe we would publish your exact address, just to make life more interesting - also everything you posted would instantly be deleted - and management would freeze yr account -GAME OVER! !) Fun for me, but not so much fun for the troll, i suspect.

Here's my 2 and a half cents.
I think they need someone to come on once or twice a week check out the board and just see who's creating trouble(posting hundreds of nonsense posts) and TROLLING up the board and get rid of that individual.
I for one would gladly offer my services :)

Of course. Someone to delete the evil-doers is all we need.

BK, you spend a little time over there. Do you have ANY idea why, after all the trouble, they don't use mods???

Maybe...
Let's face it, the showcase forms are too old, and too easy to hack.

I've given up on the Showcase forms... I much prefer the org! There's a great bunch of people here.

BK- Have you ever had to use your Mod abilities here?

I really don't know what Showcase is thinking Ben. I put it down to ignorance and simply not caring about the forums. Everything they do to help is so useless and haphazard. If I ran showcase I would either set up a mod or delete the board.

Julian: I needed to delete a few posts someone by the name of Jacob made. Jacob drops in occasionally and spouts a bunch of bullshit and pretends to be from the show... Now that I have administrator status I'd be happy to ban the asshole.

The questions isn't do they need a moderator, but do they WANT one.

It's obvious that Showcase isn't too concerned about their forum community anyway.  They probably get enough unique page visitors on their site daily that they could care less about the regular visitors.

It really sucks, but thankfully there are alternatives for the devoted fans of this community.

Thanks .org! :P

I love the org as well, but I'm not about the jump off the sinking ship known as Showcase. I'll stay with that forum until it's completely submerged under shitwater (permanantly deleted), and not a second before. I can't say I blame any of you for leaving, but longtime members such as myself, Becca, and QAFGurl find it sentimentally difficult to abandon ship. I know it looks pretty bleak over there a lot of the time, but I ain't shook. Showcase is in my blood, and I'm not gonna let some Googly Eyed Spacefuck chase me away. Lates.

BTW, you're right, BK. All we need is someone to delete the evil-doers. Evil-doers-reminds me of Dubyah heh

I agree.  I browse the Showcase forums daily and frequent them before coming here.  Leaving them entirely is not an option for me at this time.

The thing is, I've accepted the fact that the trolls are there and will remain there.  I've accepted that Showcase doesn't care about their forum use.  It's their site, and if they want spam crap on there... all the power to them!

I have just learned to ignore the troll and not drown in sorrow on how shitty the Showcase forums have become now.  I mean, there are some decent threads there still - so all is not lost :)

And on the other hand, I really like the .org because you can come here to post without having some lame insult spewn at you - or read some entire chapter of whatever novel or story GES wants to share! Hehe! :)

One can only hope, BK. One can only hope. And hey, if and when Kerry and Edwards win the election, they will be the first couple to be President and Vice-President. Love is in the air heh Lates.

I ignored the troll and didn't bite at any time but I got very disheartened with the whole tone of the Showcase board. I tried to only post to threads in which I had something to say and those grew further and further apart.
I still browse there fairly often but still can't find much to respond to. I am getting to like the .org and feel that I can say what I want, when I want without stupid comments being added that don't have anything to do with anything.
I will post wherever I feel I can make a contribution.

Those are my feelings as well Fishy.  I still look at Showcase from time to time, but there has been very little going on there to tempt me to reply.

I find the conversations over here more interesting, lets face it, most people have given up on showcase.  On the one hand I can understand why some good people still want to post there to try and take back the forum but I think they are only entertaining the troll.  If everyone leaves Showcase then all the troll will have is new people coming in asking "when does season 5 start" and "who is Reveen".  Maybe after awhile of that he will get bored and move on to some other more lively place.

Touche, Di. I pretty much agree with everything you said. It's nice to have you still around Showcase as well. Fight the good fight (alright, I've surpassed my quota of lame cliches for one day, so I'll cease immediately heh) Lates.

Look at that - the poll currently shows that 83%(50% Yes,+ 33% Maybe) of folks think Showcase could, perhaps, be tamed by mods. Now if Showcase brass thought the same and/or gave a shit, we'd have two civilized places to visit. Could happen [-o<  . .
