Ideas for Saturday in Montreal
« on: Feb 07, 2006, 03:34 PM »
My brother is coming up for a hockey game and I got 2 other married buddies going with us to Montreal for the afternoon and the game.

Where should we go for some drinks/boobies/entertainment before the game?  Preferably withing walking distance to the CentreBell.  I've never been out in Montreal so I'm clueless.

Enrico you should be able to help.

Thanks in advance.

St. Catherines St is just up the road from the Bell Centre. There are lots of bars, including strip bars, and restaurants on that street. None really stand out though that I can recall, perhaps someone who has spent more time in MTL can give you some names.  There are lots of cool pubs and bars on Crescent St. just off St. Catherines.

Hubby says the Peel Pub has edible cheap food and lots of it...

Beers and food are college stuff but hey you get to see young peeps around..

Have fun at the game!
I don't regret what I haven't done yet...

You asked for it, so here we go...

If you want to have some real fun, here are a few tips in the order you requested:

1) Drinks - stay the fuck off of Crescent street unless you really like paying too much for beer.  Sure, it's easy and it's close to the Bell Centre, but the bar owners know that too.  If you want to drink and feel good doing it, hit up St. Laurent.  Yes, you may have to take a cab there but it will be worth it.  Some of the best clubs are bars are on that street.  I really like Resevoir at St. Laurent and Duluth, it's a brew-pub and it's small, with an attractive clientelle.  I know you said before the game, but Montreal won't really be lit until after the game, which brings us to #2....

2) Boobies - Now, I don't want to make it look like I know what I'm talking about, but I do.  Go to Club SuperSexe and don't look back.  Sure Chez Paree is famous, but SuperSexe is THE place on St. Catherines...end of story.

3) Entertainment - Well, you have the peeler bar and you have hockey tickets...what more do you want?

There will be the temptation to go to Crescent St...it's so close and you want to go to the game with a buzz.  I respect that...but go one street over (to Bishop) and you'll find a neat Irish pub with slightly less expensive beer.

Good luck!

This is always a good time in Montreal...

Find the Rock Machine's clubhouse and march up and down the sidewalk with a sign that says "HELLS ANGELS RULE!!!!"

Good Times!!!

Before you get sauced too much, this will have to be an absolute must while you are in Montreal:

Shwartz's Deli on St-Laurent have the most immaculate smoked meat in the world.  Go with the medium, the extra fat goes along way for the flavour.

There will probably be a small line-up, trust me, you can not leave the city until you've had a genuine smoked meat sandwich.  I'm honestly considering moving from Toronto to Montreal for the sandwiches.

Brandt: You never went to college...

The Dude: Oh, no I did, but I spent most of my time occupying various administration buildings... smoking a lot of thai stick... breaking into the ROTC... and bowling. To tell you the truth Brandt, I don't remember most of it.
