Beefheart is pretty cool.  After many years of Zappa (he was pushed on me) I have learned to have some love for the Captain.

I push The Band on people.  Not that I need to push hard - as they are friggin awesome.

i *heart* zappa pushers!

Me too. Still not sure about Captain Beefheart though...

Other bands I bore people about:
Pavement (I'm a Pavement Pusher!)
Fu Manchu
Flaming Lips
Janis Joplin (especially Cheap Thrills and Kozmic Blues)

I must check out Julie Doiron's latest stuff too, Eric's Trip were pretty good.

Captain Beefheart - Gotta be in the mood
Pavement - ok with that
Fu Manchu - Not familiar with - have to check them out
Flaming Lips - Love the Lips - We just got their movie and soundtrack. Prolly better w/some shrooms

Janis Joplin- A good friend of mine played in a band that opened for JJ. He said she used to chase him around. according to him she scared the fuck out of him.

I always push Michael Franti & Spearhead. Once you see them live you are hooked.
"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false."

William J. Casey - Head of Reagan's CIA after his first staff meeting.

She sings on Gord Downie's second solo CD Battle of the Nudes, great CD.  She has a big part in Steeplechase, an amazing song!

My fav all-time live album is Dylan's Before the Flood, they were his band for that tour.  They also sing a lot of their stuff on it.

I guess Zappa can be an acquired taste! Hot Rats is a great album to start with, though.

Hell yeah, The Pixies were great, I had a phase on them. And Sonic Youth.

When my kids try and push 'punk' music on me of the likes of Simple Plan (how is that stuff punk??)

I always come back with one of my favourite 80s bands The Lime Spiders

But they never seem to like it :\

I'm a huge Wilco fan. Can't wait for their next album.

And ditto to the Zappa. The guy was a phenomenal guitar player and funny as fuck.
I know how it's pronounced; I ordered jaLOPano.

I posted this before in the what are you listening to but I reckon it fits here as well

City and Colour (Dallas Green - get it :))  I got his latest CD for Christmas, I'm really liking it.  I love this song, Sleeping Sickness, the great <- Gord Downie drops in and sings a verse.  He also appears in the video, but he's just sort of laying down on the job.

Lard tunderin whodatunk Hockey Night in Canada would end their season with this song!  When Ron said Dallas and Gord would finish the season for us I was wondering what does that song have to do with it?  Anyway great editing it fit in perfectly, congrats Pens!

I just ran into a video of an old band mate playing with his new band. His name is Mick Torbay and plays bass guitar with the Free Press. He was the keyboard player with the Fishtix when we opened up for Red Rider in Owen Sound, ON.
The cool thing is that Randy Bo Bandy introduces them 8) Check out the video. Good quality sound that is likely a feed off the sound board. Interesting tune and the guys can all sing. Nice, solid musicianship as well.

Tegan and Sara !!!!!!!
---------------------- and maybe some day i can say a todaso

 8)

We love Tegan and Sara. We were going to name our youngest Teagan if he would have been a girl.

I went through a big Pixie phase too. The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Concrete Blonde, The Dead Kennedys, The Dead Milkmen, Black Flag...

Then there was the Ministry, Revolting Cocks - industrial phase.

Nine Inch Nails when they first came out were great. My cousin Johnny used to hang with Trent before he became somebody.

If you like The Pogues you will like The Mahones, from Kingston, ON.
We've heard of The Mahones too. They are good. Both mine and my husband's families immigrated from Ireland in the 1950's. The New Barleycorn are fun and local, so I've seen them a million times. Of course there is Flogging Molly and the Chieftans...there is a newer band called The Blizzards that are causing a bit of a buzz in Ireland.

Usually I push Grant Lee Buffalo on people. Grant Lee Phillips solo stuff is great too. I saw them in concert in the 90's and they were fantastic and hung with the crowd afterward too. As a matter of fact, it was at the same club that I first heard The Hip. I was SO underage too...LOL! It was an incredible show and if my boyfriend didn't have to get me home at a respectable hour, I could have stayed for the whole show. *SIGH* Youth...LOL!
