do the Leafs have anything positive going for them?

nope.  nothing.  zero.  nada.  zilch.

oh, except for the glut of defencive and goaltending prospects and the looming cap space for next year, plus the distinct possibility that there could be a major shift in team management.

but other than that i can't really think of anything.

after tonight's game (WTF?!?) i gotta say it's pretty sweet to see that everyone who's been called up from the Marlies has played great.  i'm not sure what Aubin thinks he's doing.  Ian White has 4 pts in 3 games, he looks like a keeper.

WTF is right! That was another confusing, albeit great, performance by the Leafs. A 7-0 win against the Sabres!? Holy Schnike! Even if they don't make the playoffs it's important to end with as many positives as possible. Yup, the Marlie call-ups have been great. I missed the game tonight so I don't know what you meant by "i'm not sure what Aubin thinks he's doing?"

i just mean WHAT IN THE FAWK IS HE DOING?!?!?

he wins his first 3 games as a Leaf; wins over Jersey, Philly and Buffalo?  he shuts out Buffalo?!?  what the hell is that?

it's maddening is what it is.

Too bad their odds for the playoffs arnt really good.

I hear ya! The tragic number is now 3. In the remaining games, any combination of Leafs losses and Lightening wins resulting in a further 3 point deficit will mathematically eliminate the Leafs. Essentially the Leafs have to win all their games and the Lightening have to loose all their games. And this doesn't include Atlanta so, ya, their chances are slim to none. Those two bad games in Montreal killed them. At least there are a lot of positives. They've been playing much better as of late. J-S Aubin has been great! He hasn't lost in regulation. A lot of the younger guys are playing well also. The future may not be as bleak as once thought. Let's wait to see what happens in the off-season. If ya gotta go, 'tis better to go out fighting.
Posted on: Apr 10, 2006, 07:19 PM
OH MY GOD! WHAT A GAME! The Leafs came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 6-5 in overtime! Mats Sundin got 6 points tonight; 4 goals and 2 assists! I'm pissed off that I couldn't watch the game. It was only on Leafs TV.

I know there are a lot of Leafs fans here and in Canada, but can TSN finally give in to the fact that they aren't going to make the playoffs and show more important game hilites than the fucking leafs.  They've been in 11 or 12th in the conference up until the last week, yet they're the first story on every sportscenter, sportsnet news, headline sports, whatever.  Nothing on the races out west, the race for first in the east, the 3 way race to not play ottawa in the first round.  Nope.  Let's all see how Tie Domi reacts to Pat Quinn and Fergie Jr. playing a game of tetherball.

I'm not afraid to admit that I hate the Leafs.  To me, they are the Yankees of hockey, minus all the success.

Once they win a Stanley Cup, perhaps I'd change my view, but I'd rather have a Columbus/NyIslander final than see Toronto win a cup.

I am not a Leafs hater, I actually like the Leafs.  I watch all of their damn games for some odd reason.  I just think they are a very funny team.  It's like 2 hours of comedy genius three nights out of the week.  Check out a comment I made about my three favourite teams on the first page of this thread.  It summarizes a lot of the sentiments I have towards the Leafs.  I also did post that picture of that Leafs guy sitting on the lawn.  Sorry about that one, that was pretty mean spirited.   :? Oh well, maybe the Bruins and Leafs can tee off at the same golf course.  I'll even caddy for Tucker, just kiddin'.

If there is one thing in this world that you could guarantee for the rest of eternity without even thinking about it, is that I would NEVER EVER EVER cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs.  They could be playing shinny against Osama Bin Laden, Hitler, Celine Dion, Rosie O'Donnell and Chad Kroeger with Chris Kattan in net and I wouldn't cheer for the Leafs.

Nothing against Leaf fans, they are entitled to cheer for their team.  Even the Red Sox won once in 98 years.

i understand that Leaf haters feel the need to vent, although sometimes it ends up coming off as a tad infantile (re: your post previous to the one i've quoted).

it's one thing to vent about the team; but when you go after the fans, of which i am one, you shouldn't be surprised to feel a bit of a backlash.  i'm sorry if i was out of line.

Nothing can bring me down from the high I feel after last night's game. Good for Mats Sundin and the rest of the team. I've got no problem with Toronto based media concentrating on Leaf coverage. They know who's watching. I don't give two shits about what people are saying, good or bad.  All I see is that the Leafs are playing their best hockey of the season. If it ends up being too little, too late then so be it. If by some miracle they make it in then all the detractors can commence the discussion about how they wont survive the first round. Yada, yada, yada.

I'm not necessarily targeting Leafs fan.   More of a sweeping generalization of the team that is essentially Canada's team whether the rest of the country likes it or not.  Living in Toronto it is hard not to get caught up in the atmosphere at playoff time.  I would like to see every Canadian team in the playoffs.  I just wanted to add to a previous post that commented on the fact that SportCenter and other sports shows always lead with the Leafs as their lead story.

Maybe I am more frustrated that my Bruins were eliminated right around the time they traded their leading scorer, captain and arguably the best player in the league.   ;)

you ain't kidding.  i would sure hate to see them catch Tampa, only to have Atlanta sneak into 8th.  whatever, at least they're making it interesting.  you gotta love how Stajan's picked up his game since he was scratched.
