Is that a play on the Beatles "White Album"?  You know, I always liked Prince, especially in the Revolution era (and before, some great post Mowtown funk singles)

Well the album didn't really have a name and it was all black so The Black Album was born.

Talking about The White Album, who's heard Revolution 9? (Not the normal revolution.)

Puts me in mind of the scene from This is Spinal Tap where they finally see their new album.  It is all black.  They are pissed off at first then one of them trys to rationalize it and says

"Its like you have to ask yourself how much more black could it be, and the answer is none...none more black"

"You should have seen the album cover they wanted, it wasn't a glove they wanted her to smell"

Right now I'm listening to "That Song" by Big Wreck.

I love Big Wreck, especially their first album, In Loving Memory Of...

The driving force behind the band Ian Thornley, who is now solo, is Canadian.  They were influenced by another great Canadian band Big Sugar.

Yes, a John and Yoko collaboration, not a highlight for most Beatles fans.  I actually prefer Revolution 1, also from the White Album, over the normal Revolution.

number 9..... number 9..... the thing about this piece is that you have to think of it not as a normal song, but as an experiment in musical history.......

"Backfield In Motion" - chum 1050 am (prefer ckoc 1150, but reception is lousy tonight)
Backfield In Motion

Words and music by M. McPherson and M. Harden
Recorded by Mel and Tim

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.
Off sides and holdin', yeah,
You ought to be ashamed of yourself baby
Off sides and holdin' yeah,
Holdin' on to someone else
You know you're cheatin' baby,
Fakin' the bout
You know you're balkin', baby,
(oh yeah) strike three you're out
And I caught you with
Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.

First down you start cheatin' on me
Second down, I was too blind to see
Third down, you know I love you so
Fourth down, baby I got to let you go,
'Cos I caught you with your
Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.
Now you will see, ah yeah, just how I felt
You beat me to the punch honey,
But you hit me below the belt
And I caught you with your
Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.
Backfield in motion, backfield in motion...
Backfield in motion, backfield in motion...
(dvs should dig this metaphor,eh?)

isn't it nice to hear Revolution all accoustic and laid back, with 'ah-shoo-be-do-wop' taking the rhythm sectoion instead of a bunch of distortion pedals.... If I recall correctly from the biographies, they were most proud of Revolution #1 as well.... I have very high Beatle lore due to my rabid fandom in adolescence, I swear I could've written college courses on those boys....

Excellent background for toking up while watching TPB with the sound low (which works great if you've seen them fifty kajillion times and know all the lines anyway)  8)

Ah, REM- based about 150 miles from me!  Love the boys.  Although, being a great fan of tackiness and B-Rate nonsense, I must say my all time favorite band from Athens GA is definately the B-52's.....  "What's that on your head?  A WIG!!"
