While in Halifax I went to King of Donair downtown.(Thanks, Fishy)  :D  Yummy!
Yesterday at work, I was ringing a customers's order through, and I notice that his business was a donair place.l  So we got to chatting, I told him about KOD in Halifax.  He said that his place was the only one similar to Halifax, with the three ingrediants in the recipe.  So the best place in Vancouver (actually North Vancouver) is Canadian Donair. So he says.

So I heard all the talk about Donair Eggrolls being served up down east, so I took it upon myself to heat up my deep fryer, buy a pack of egg roll wrappers and set out on an expedition of glutton.

I only had the shitty type of meat, but it was Version 1.0, so there's always room for improvements.

They turned out so fucking good, even with the shitty meat and homemade sauce (which is better than bought).

I ate them so fast, I didn't even get a pic, but I think the wife didn't finish hers.  7th Anniversary dinner baby.

Mrs. Coleharbourjim made some party sized donairs on those mini pita bread things. Bite sized donair delights.

We stopped at St John to get a couple.  It was more like a gyro with a smattering of the evaporated milk + sugar + vinegar sauce.  It was no KOD  (even though we tried stopping at the KOD by the smoke stacks the morning after ColeHarbourJim's.   (It was closed...causing a torrent of foul language from Dave that was so violent it made the "Take Notice, There Shall Be No Swearing or Use of Profanity" sign fall off the entrance walls.

We tried making it back home here, and thanks to trailerparkboys recipe posting, came pretty darn close.

I liked it so much, I made Donair toothpaste with the leftovers.

For those who have been to Pizza Corner in Halifax, bad news.

Just think, while you were eating there the place was infested with rats that were swimming thru the basement that was filled with water and human waste. Sounds like they should tear the building down instead.
