Anybody ever been defrauded on Ebay? Updated!!
« on: Nov 16, 2005, 11:14 AM »
I almost was....at least I think I stopped the shipment on time.
I was trying to sell a piece of jewelery, a 14kt womens bracelet watch with 24 diamonds and 24 Sapphires, that belonged to my grandmother. She was a very petite woman and after her death in 1997 it came into my mothers possesion. My aunts, her sisters in law, gave it to her to sell because she needed cash after her divorce from my dad. She kept it and I wound up with it when my mom passed in 2001.
No one in my family can wear it due to its small size(16½cm) and I need cash being an immigrant. My wifes income is all we have. Xmas coming up and all that.
Well I listed it on Ebay and after a 10 day auction and no bidders a guy from Spain contacted me and said he wanted to buy it and what was my price. I told him and he recommended an escrow company, safebid-ltd, to do the transaction. Everything seemed fine until I started to get nervous/paranoid and started doing research on the escrow company. RED FLAGS everywhere!!  #-o
Late last night I got the bad news that I did not want to hear, the escrow company was a fraudulent website!!
I contacted the Danish postal service this morning and because the package arrived in Spain at 11pm last night I may be able to get it back.
Just want to know if anybody else has had similar experiences.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me to keep me out of prison, 'cuz if this scumbag does get the watch and I don't get my money I am going to Spain with a few knives.

Anybody ever been defrauded on Ebay?
I've never be defrauded.  But I have received things that were not quite what was expected.  SUch as a poster that was described as an original but ended up being a peice of cardboard with the picture on it.

I love Ebay so dont get me wrong on that.  But there are so many scammers out there I have to be so careful now.   Been with them since their beginnings and  I've learned to never trust a buyer (or seller) who contacts me out of auction.

I remember the good ole days when an item posted on ebay was the item you got.  Now if I have any doubt I just don't bid or cancel a bid on one of my items.

I wish you the best on this.  And if you need any back up in Spain....I'll be on the first flight to meet you.   :x

Islandrer, thanks for the offer  :D I guess between two of us we could inflict some serious damage on this POS. I hate scum like this, Iam tryin to supplement my income and keep my family in the basic's and scum like this comes along trying to rip off honest people!! Believe you me, I will go to Spain and track this fucker down if I get scammed. Maybe  not today, maybe not tomorrow but It willhappen, excuse my typos , I am typing under the influence of good Danish beer and Valium, I was a freaking mess today! Stress, an excuse for recreational drug abuse. 8)

BC Babe, have you ever tried to deal with spanish police? I cant remember how many times I said "Habla Englese?"
"No Habla Espanol" thirty forty times ? I do not remember.
The Danish post was very helpful and went out of there way to help me. I just hope I started the process early enough to prevent this scumbag(slang definition : a used condom) from ever receivig my package. Thanks guys, just as with Darbys kid, positive thoughts from everyone will help.  :D

This sort of thing really sours me.  The most I have ever sold for on ebay was about $1000, but I was amazed at how many people came out of the woodwork looking to scam.

On the upside I've gotten members banned from ebay too.  I may be an anal retentive fucker but I take the "Ebay experience" quite serious.  100% feedback baby!  :beeer:

Best of luck.

Hope ya get things straightened out ET!  Funny this should come up now, after 2+ years of buying / selling on e-bay I'm having my first problem right now.  Bought something on Oct-15 and the vendor said it shipped Oct-17.  When I didn't get it by Oct-31 I sent an e-mail asking about it and was told it was shipped and would be arriving in the next week.  Still nothing by Nov-7 so I e-mailed and asked what was up.  The vendor said he had no record of shipping to my address and accused me of scamming.  I was able to provide paypal info showing I paid and he had both the payment and my $$$.  He then appologized and said he would ship it that day - Nov-7.  Got home last night and found it still hasn't arrived.  Gonna have to take this to the next level soon.  Aside from pissing me off, I don't have time to chase this guy for something I should have gotten no hastle 3 weeks ago.  Ah well ........ the joys of E-bay lol!

Melba, DAF Thanks for the positive comments and well wishes. I really dont want to got to Spain and kill this motherfucker, but for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Thank fuck for customs as they hold shipments for a few days, DAF , I hope you get your issue resolved and will keep my fingers crossed for you as well.

Thanks ET!  I *think* things should be okay for me because the vendor in question has a store set up and has 21,000+ sales BUT ya never know.  It's more the PITA factor on this one than the $$$ as I'll get my stuff but never get the time back I spent chasing it.  FWIW, that is one of the FIRST times I've EVER heard anybody THANK customs lol!

DAF, if you're thinking of filing a complaint and getting reimbursed through paypal you should do it today, as they require this to be done within 30 days of the original payment. I found that out the hard way once. I was able to get some money back through ebay itself, but minus a $25 processing fee which was more than half of what I'd paid. No great loss in the end, but a lesson learned.

Fuckin customs did a good thing. (Jaw hits floor, and I rub my eyes). I just love the way they charge you to open your package then charge you for handling said package, then charge you what tax they say you should pay. Well its about time someone gets thier moneys worth out of customs.

I have done over 150 transactions as a buyer/seller on ebay. I would say I have had pretty good luck over the past few years. I even bought a computer and a Yamaha keyboard and got everything with no problem. Until last month when I bought a lot of watches from a seller for resale. He said the watches had swiss movement, and looked pretty good. When I got them they say made in China on the back of the watches and they look quite cheap. I can't sell them on ebay as I am too honest and I could not bring myself to rip someone off.

Good luck getting your watch back.

No news yet, good, bad or otherwise. The scumbag in Spain said in an email last night that he got the package and has informed the  escrow company to that effect, they have not contacted me though and the Spanish postal service has not confirmed that they delivered it. I sent it registered mail so he would have to sign for it but the Spanish postal system is a private company and they are not as efficient as Government run postal services. Holding my breath and keeping my toes and fingers crossed!!!

Yes, I know how strange it seems to thank customs, but in this case......you never know. On that topic my dad sent my daughter a sterling silver cake knife as a birthday present. Customs opened the box but not the actual present.  :?

I will hunt this asswipe down maybe not tomorrow , maybe not next week, but when he least expects it WHAMM!! I got a few knives I wont mind throwing in the Mediterranean Sea!!

That's just it.  Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Have you tried posting your concerns on the Ebay forums?  Other users may have had similar dealings with this company, Safebid.   I've used these forums in the past and everyone is always willing to chat and help when they can.

Some news, not sure how to take it. From the Spanish postal service website I found out that an attempt to deliver the package was made today but no one was home at the shitheads house. They left a notice for him to pick it up at his local post office. I have filled out every form on every website that I can. I did catch the fucker in a lie. He said that he had the package yesterday and I know for sure he did not have it.
Looks like I may have to beat someone senseless!! Who wants to help? We can all meet at Djets place. Don't worry I'll take the rap for it. Hell we can all pose as drunk tourists and say "No Habla Espanol!!"

It pays to fill out forms! 30 minutes ago i got an email from the Spanish post help center asking for the tracking number and that they would email the local post office to stop the delivery! Crossing toes and fingers and man the cramps are getting bad. Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst.
