I know I haven't read everything yet but here's my 2 cents and my oppinion.. The gas is already paid for so the oil rigs hit by the hurricane won't effect the gas prices for another couple weeks. Lets say a pizza costs 1 dollar to make a slice and they sell it for $1.50 for profit, if the price of tomato sauce went up after they had bought their ingredients they wouldn't be able to sell the pizza for $2.50 a slice.

I was driving home from Nova scotia and ew had stopped off in NB, I decided to get gas the night before we left so we could get up and go...gas was $1.15 a bit higher than normal over there. The next morning the EXACT SAME GAS was $1.39/L re fucking dicuouls... plus my insurance rates I'm tempted to say fuck it.

What really pissed me off is refining margins are about C$0.30 / litre or roughly triple the average margin over the past 12 months

The markets have yet to recognize the accelerated recovery of the 3 refineries expected to come back on line sooner than originally projected.  Even when that happens the oil companies will not drop the price at the pumps until they actually come back on line even thought crude they would have bought foward at a lower price to reflect this accelarated return will have been flowing at the pumps for ages.  Stretching timing in favour of themselves is an time tested tradition for them .

I was just out and gas was down to 121.9 here in Eastern Ontario.

Do I fill up now or wait a few more days?  It should only go down from here on.

No offense but .... ROFLMAO  :rastajoint:.  Prices will NOT go down anytime in the immediate future unless some level of government does something about it.

I just got this in the e-mail box
Please read and forward on
>
>It is rumoured that we are going to hit close to a $1.42 a Litre by
>the winter. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some
>intelligent, united action. Someone offered this good idea: This
>makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the don't buy gas on a certain day
>campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies
>just laughed at that
>>because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by
>>refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it
>>was a problem for them. BUT, this is a plan that can really work.
>>Please read it and join.
>>
>>We all know that we're being controlled by the oil companies. Does
>>everyone remember how they drove up the prices and got the gas
>>prices to where they wanted them, claimin g there was a shortage of
>>oil. Well, there isn't any shortage now, and the oil is more
>>abundant than it was 35 years ago when the price of a gallon of gas
>>was 29 cents!!!
>>
>>Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
>>to think that the cost of a litre of gas is CHEAP at $0.78-$0.85,
>>we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control
>>the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up
>>more each day, we consumers need to take action.. The only way we
>>are going to see the price
>>of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not
>>purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
>>How? Since w e all rely on our cars we can't just stop buying gas..
>>But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to
>>force a price war.
>>
>>Here's the idea:
>>
>>PAY ATTENTION HERE
>>
>>For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two
>>biggest companies (which now are one), PETRO CANADA and SHELL. If
>>they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their
>>prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have
>>to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally
>>millions of PETRO CANADA and SHELL buyers. It's really simple to
>>do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and
>>Ill explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
>>
>> I am sending this note to at least thirty people. If each of you
>>send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) . And if those 300
>>send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by
>>the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we
>>will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three
>>million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30
>>million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level
>>further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
>>
>>Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.
>>How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to
>>ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people
>>could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Ill bet
>>you I didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!
>>Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to
>>you, please pass this message on.
>>
>>PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $0.64 OR LESS
>>RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK!!!!

100% correct Shake!  If you want to take a practical approach to hitting the oil companies where it hurts and help impact what are sure to be their record profits in a negative way try the following simple and logical steps:

1) Do not buy a single item from the convenience stores at the gas stations. They actually make most of their profit from these items, you can have a meaningful effect by avoiding all such purchases at all cost.

2) Buy small quantities of gas. This may be somewhat of an inconvenience, but if you make 3 purchases of $10 as opposed to 1 of $30 this will increase their processing costs, perhaps even increase their staffing requirements - more service for less volume. There's also a good chance you might catch a cheaper gas price - kind of like playing the slots lol!

3) Always use a credit card to pay. This will cut their margins either by way of percentages paid to the credit card companies or through rewards points programs.

4) Do not purchase any other items like car washes, winshield washer, oil or anything else they sell.

Also, smart planning of errands and trips etc will help reduce the amount of fuel you use and save you some money to boot.  These types of things are simple to do on a daily basis and will have an impact on the oil companies.

I already do most of the things you suggest D_A_F (everything but buy gas in smaller quantities, I like a full gas tank), but I didn't realize that I was making a difference by doing so! As for my preferrence of filling up the tank, I try not to let my tank go below half, & I drive an Accent which has a fairly small gas tank to begin with. Before the big hike up I would spend $15-$20 on gas at a time every week and a half or so. I haven't had to buy gas since it was .95, but I think I'll have to cave in soon, dang!
