LCD Repair: Supply Shops in Canada???
« on: Oct 30, 2005, 10:21 AM »
The backlight on my laptop blew out.   Any Canadian members here know if there are any good (ie: reputable) LCD supply shops in Canada that can provide parts by mail order?

Unfortunately, the computer repair places here in town are either unwilling to do the work that I want or don't know/won't tell where I can get the light I need.  THey would much prefer that I just replace the whole screen.  Quite pricy for a problem that only requires a $10-$30 light bulb.

Found plenty of places in the States where I can get what I need but would prefer to buy in Canada.

Here are the vitals if it helps:

Samsung 15" XGA, screen #LTN150XD-L01-D  (Dell's internal number is J0464).

I believe the number for the light is MS201310.  But that could be the number that www.lcdpart.com uses for their own purposes.

Thanks guys.
This post was typed in 3-B.  Three beers and it looks good, eh?

This is one subject I cant help with.  If google cant find a store with the part you need in Canada I doubt you can get it here.  If anything they would probably order you one in from the USA anyways so you might as well buy it from the USA.

I'm sure you are right.  THought I'd throw this out in case someone happened to live next door to a supply shop.  :D

It is just rather unfortunate that I can't get a repair place to do the work I want.  As opposed to the most extreme case of one place telling me that it cannot be fixed and I'll need a whole new laptop.  Not surprisingly they just happened to have some on sale.

Yah I dont trust computer stores at all except for specialty wholesale part computer stores where you can build a computer yourself with competative priced parts.  They're kinda like used car dealers always tryin to sell you an overpriced underpowered computer.

To make it even more insulting, this is a place I've been dealing with for years because of the customer service.

Oh well.  I'm a little uncertain about this repair.  I've read up on it and each document remarks about anti-static soldering and an anti-static work station.  But I found at techy in NB to do it for me.   Hopefully I'll get a light before my next trip over.

Finally tracked down a place in Ontario who repair LCDs and is willing to ship me the part I need.  THough at a retardedly high price.

So I guess I'll be looking to California for a new bit.  $19.98USD including shipping isn't bad.

Just be careful not to spash the bulb as its got poisons such as mercury in it.

Just ordered the part from California and I am assured it will be sent today.  So it should arrive before my next trip to New Brunswick.

$23.49CAN.   Not too bad.

But I'll be sure to watch the techy work his magic.  I have a feeling I'll be shocked at how simple it will be to replace.

Thanks again for that link.
