ORG Switching to New Forum Software

That's right! I'm not blowin' smoke!

Over the past few months I've been noticing the current board software to be getting a bit slow, and chuggy when loading pages sometimes. The amount of users we've gained this past season has likely contributed to this, but also the software that runs these forums is starting to get out of date in comparison to some of the newer generation message forum software available.

I've decided to bite the bullet, and make a decision that should hopefully get things running smoother, faster - and give the board a slight facelift. I've kept the overall design, as many people are fond of the chicken fingers, and wood paneling. However, there will be a variety of colour schemes & themes for you to choose from, each with customized graphics. I've also tried my best to re-create the themes currently available on this forum software so that the changeover isn't too dramatic all at once.

All the posts, and PMs, etc.. will all be converted over - with very minimal loss (if any at all - testing has gone great thus far).

There will likely be a short amount of downtime while things are transferred, and re-setup - but this really should be very minimal.

The date planned for this change will be Sept 1st (Trivia players need not worry, as the winner will be posted on the homepage news while the forums are offline)

Hope to see you all in your new trailers soon! :)

Cheers.

PS - I will post a "teaser" preview sometime later this week once I finish up a few more graphics.

As promised here's a "teaser" - it's not too much, but shows one of the themes from this board being used with the new board software.

I like the bar graph approach for the user Stats. Very clean. I'm curious to see what the whole thing looks like. Change is good :D

Very nice cd!  Did the rum glass gifs I sent you look ok?  Maybe we could make a 2nd theme with rum glasses in the spot where the weed leafs are.  Empty glass for when theres no new posts and half full of rum when there is new posts.  If it looks silly just trash it but tell me anyways so I know how it turned out.

"thepark" has basically been adapted into a "Sexy Black T-Shirt" theme, which is mainly dark background, light text.

I tried to make a few different colour schemes to hopefully suit everyones tastes. So far we've got:

Sunnyvale Blues (blue/white)
Showcase Deja Vu (teal green in various shades)
Dope Flavoured Rum (green/white)
Bumble Bee (black/yellow-ish)
Sexy Black T-Shirt (white/black/grey)

Adding more as we go along should be a pretty simple task (apart from re-doing all the graphics) - so if you have any suggestions once the new forums are up, let me know and I can do my best to work on something.

I doubt it, the database just needs to be transfered over so all the newest posts are over there.  Shouldnt take too long eh cd?

I have to re-install everything from scratch, then transfer the database, configure the settings, then apply all the addons, add the themes, setup the mod/admin rights, and do some tests to make sure everything is running right before I flip the switch.

It shouldn't take too long, you're right. But I figure if I over estimate it'll give me plenty of room for error, and any fixing - and if everything goes smoothly, we'll be back online in a jiffy instead of a long time. I'll be getting things ready tonight, and starting when I wake up (or maybe later on tonight if board activity is low) hoping to shoot for 12pm at the latest to be back online.
