.ORG Live Chat, Does anyone use it?
« on: Jul 26, 2005, 07:50 PM »
I log onto the Live Chat on this site a couple times a week, to see if there is anyone on there, and there is rarely anyone there....But a fair amount of people are usually browsing the site. It would be great if people actually started using it...I think it would be hilarious for everyone to log on and shoot the shit from time to time.

I had a decent chat with remlap last night.. it's pretty dead in there though.. I keep my chat window open just in case I'm able to catch someone looking to chat, but often times I'm not in front of my screen when people join. There's not really any chat going on usually to keep the interest of someone joining unfortunately.. Sunday nights were pretty hot for a while, when the show was airing this year. Lots of people chatting then.. Maybe we just need to plan a date and time span for a chat to occur. MJ is really good for hanging out there as well - you just might have to mention the halifax mooseheads to get his attention & find out what handle he uses :)

To be honest, I never figured out exactly how that chat works - I just tried to enter, but it started blathering about "erroneous nickname" and enter you #, blah, blah, blah.
Ages ago I tried the mirc thang, but it was annoying also. I do visit another board now and then, and its chat is totally easy- click on "chat" and you are chatting.
I suppose if I was led by the hand and got it done once or twice, I'd remember the drill. So if you see me on the board and wanna chat, PM instructions in the "chat 101 for dummies" mode and I'll try.

  cheers!

Yah BB is is kinda weird to get working...for some reason, it won't let me sign in as Ole Dirty, I can only sign in as OD...it will tell you the name is being used, and you have to use another name. then you have to type "/nick new nickname"

In order to make the chatroom more accessable, I had it connect to a chat server that many people use already - so that would explain the nickname thing, also there is an 8 character limit on usernames.. kinda limited I know.. I've been looking for other software options, but nothing has really come up that meets the current standard of the existing java chat (that I am able to install on this webhosting account)

I've been messing around with the whole chat thing this morning. Think I've finally got it figured out. If I'm around Sunday night, I'll pop in and say "howdy."

Its whats called as an IRC bot with a few scripts to make it a bit more realistic, it gets on my nerves when I enter the room.

And cat-dog I hope we can chat sometime again and maybe with a few others here to.

I dont care who you are, I mean at some point your gonna do something in your life that you wish you could take it back... But guess what you f*cking cant, and once its done its done, and I guess regret in that way is a form of punishment for things you wish you never did, but you did them.

The Lahey bot can definately get a bit annoying, especially with a lot of people joining & leaving quick, a screen can quickly become filled with his one liners :)

If the general concensus is that's he's annoying, I can remove the greet, and maybe toss his lines into the !quote function (that nobody knows about - gives a random quote)

Uh, I'm logged into the chat room now ( I think ) testing it out from my home computer. Tried it from work yesterday and it seemed to be functioning properly. If anyone wants to pop in and say hello, it would help me to know whether or not I'm good to go for a Sunday night session.

I don't need mIRC to chat though right? I can just use the LIVE CHAT button on the front page and just log in that way right? I had mIRC for a trial period but I don't chat on alot of places so I didn't think the mIRC was necessary to have.  :?

That's what I've been wondering too. I've actually never done a live chat thing, so I really have no idea what I'm doing.

Right.  The live chat button should load a java applet (another window) in which you establish a connection to the irc server and specific chat room.  I'm just using Mirc and idling in there.
