I met a legend!

This was another in the CBC Radio Fuse series, same idea as Randy and Tal Bachman.  It is a very small studio and they record the show to be played on the radio.   Last night it was Gordon Downie and The Sadies.  The Sadies have been opening for the Hip a lot lately and Gord really likes them.  They agreed to do the show for CBC and asked Gord to do it with them.

You had to answer a skill-testing question to get into the show.  They had it on the CBC news and asked in which city is the song Wheat Kings set.  Wheat Kings is the song about David Milgaard who spent over 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.  The answer to the question was Saskatoon, sundown in the Paris of the Prairies.

The show is set to be broadcast this Saturday at 3PM on CBC Radio One.  It is also on
Weekends on Sirius 137 and Radio 3.  It was an awesome show you really should listen to it.  They sang some Hip, some Downie solo, some Sadies and some amazing cover songs.  They sang songs from Neil Young, Johnny Cash and Roky Erickson,  someone who I have to start listening to!  The commentary is also very interesting, some great stories!  Gord and The Sadies are really funny guys.

I got to meet Gord after the show, he couldn't have been nicer.  I'm so glad I got to meet him and that I got to see that historic show.  I even got him to sign one of his solo CDs for me!

That must have been a thrill for ya Shake 8) I know how much you like and respect The Hip and Gord. How long 'till it's framed and up on your wall?

Oh man do you like the Sadies...they kick some serious ass.  I have 2 of their cd's I LOVE them!
They opened for Blue Rodeo on a couple of their tours.
Sadies music trivia, their (Travis and Dallas's) father is one half of the famous Canadian country group The Good Brothers.
My God...what a drunk horror show!

Yes Fishy that is it, I was representing.  Gord commented on it, said he likes those jerseys.

Of course I like The Sadies, I've seen them a few times.  I heard their new CD is pretty good I mean to get it.

I hope you can listen to the show Gord gives them some pretty high praise.

Excellent hunnerbun!

Here's some pics from the concert.  I was in the front row which was only a few inches from Gord, actually a bit too close it felt like he was giving me a table dance ha ha.  You were allowed to take pics but only with no flash and if the camera didn't make a clicking noise when you shot, since it was being recorded for the radio.  Since I was so close to Gord I didn't want to take too many pics as I was hoping he didn't mind the front row being so close which apparently it didn't, he's a pro.

You'd think I'd be able to take better pics since I was so close but I didn't want to be a distraction.  Gord was always moving as well so a lot of the shots were blurry.  There wasn't a lot of light so excuse the noise in the photos.

Thanks Fishard.  Good segue for my next pic.  For anyone who doesn't know yet has Gord a great sense of humor, he could be a comedian he is that funny, which is part of what makes Hip shows so good.  At one point in time he put the headset on guy sitting next to me, keep in mind how close we were.  In this pic he is sitting on my lap.  We weren't expecting this so I gave my friend my camera but he was fumbling around saying he couldn't see out the viewfinder, he didn't come close to getting it in focus.  So I'm trying to tell him what to do while Gord is sitting on my lap being patient and very funny.  When he got off my lap he used his hanky to wipe off were he sat on my leg ha ha.  I have to say this is the first pic of me with a guy sitting on my lap, but hey if you are going to start it might as well be Gord fucking Downie!

Thanks to Chantal for finding this pic.  While my buddy was fiddling with my camera the official photographer took this pic.
