This was another in the CBC Radio Fuse series, same idea as Randy and Tal Bachman. It is a very small studio and they record the show to be played on the radio. Last night it was Gordon Downie and The Sadies. The Sadies have been opening for the Hip a lot lately and Gord really likes them. They agreed to do the show for CBC and asked Gord to do it with them.
You had to answer a skill-testing question to get into the show. They had it on the CBC news and asked in which city is the song Wheat Kings set. Wheat Kings is the song about David Milgaard who spent over 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. The answer to the question was Saskatoon, sundown in the Paris of the Prairies.
The show is set to be broadcast this Saturday at 3PM on CBC Radio One. It is also on
Weekends on Sirius 137 and Radio 3. It was an awesome show you really should listen to it. They sang some Hip, some Downie solo, some Sadies and some amazing cover songs. They sang songs from Neil Young, Johnny Cash and Roky Erickson, someone who I have to start listening to! The commentary is also very interesting, some great stories! Gord and The Sadies are really funny guys.
I got to meet Gord after the show, he couldn't have been nicer. I'm so glad I got to meet him and that I got to see that historic show. I even got him to sign one of his solo CDs for me!
