Friday July 8 Randy Bachman was in Ottawa to record a live show for CBC radio in the brand new CBC building. He was recording a show with his son Tal. I didn't even know about it, but a friend gave me the tickets when he found out he couldn't make it. If you go back to my post in the 10 favorite bands thread, you will see how highly I rate Randy Bachman
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
The Tragically Hip
Led Zeppelin
Bob Dylan
Randy Bachman (which includes The Guess Who, BTO, Ironhorse, and his brilliant solo stuff that went mostly unnoticed)
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
April Wine
The Pogues\The Waterboys (Celtic Rock albums only) and Kingston's The Mahones
Nirvana
I have been a fan of his since as long as I can remember, (I grew up in a house where my older siblings always rock albums). I've always felt he was way too underrated when you look at all he has done over his career. I had read his biography not that long ago and I was surprised at some of the stuff he had done that I was unaware of.
Anyway it was part of a series on CBC radio where they get 2 songwriters together and they trade stories with the host Amanda Putz. They paired Randy with his son Tal, who had a huge hit a few years back with "She's So High", which btw is now the highest selling single ever in Norway because that World Idol guy recorded it. The 2 of them put on a great show, it was just the 2 of them with acoustic guitars so you could really see how talented they are. They told some great stories as well, they are funny guys.
After the concert I met Randy I got him to sign my CD liner of his BRILLIANT solo album
Any Road, I hope you can read the lyrics to
Prairie Town a song about growing up in Winnipeg he recorded with Neil Young.
