Official Season 5 Final Reviews and Analysis

--- Quote from: Slade ---I cannot say that it was my favourite season of the show. I think that distinction would go to season three. In fact, after picking season three as my favourite, I cannot really rank or order them. I like them all for different reasons.
What I liked most about season five is that the writing of each show seemed to do a much better job of tying them together. In previous years, it seemed that each episode could stand alone. It was much like Seinfeld in the sense that the activities of the characters were the most important aspect of the show and, more often than not, you did not need to know what happened in the previous episode to understand what was going on in the next one. Season five was far more cohesive. It is the first season of the show where the story seemed to be as vital to each show as the characters themselves. Even the show where they stole the rocket from Zellers and played space - which felt the most like it could have stood apart from the rest of the season's episodes - had to be seen to find out how Ricky and Bubbles got back onto speaking terms and how it was revealed that Mr. Lahey was still absolutely insane.
I liked season five for the very fact that there was greater attention paid to the main plot and the stories that were told all played a pivotal role in developing and progressing that plot. It was a good departure from past seasons of the show. I appreciate the greater attention that was paid to the main plot and the stronger storytelling. While it is not my favourite season of the show (yet), I believe it was the best written season.

My favourite scene on season 5 was the Zellers Prank that Ricky made, " Mr. Lahey and Randy to the Fuck off department, Mr. Lahey and Randy to the Fuck off department and Hurry the fuck up!"

You're taking this stuff to seriously. It's fiction, look at it strictly in that light and you'll enjoy it a lot more. And in case you havn't noticed, this years "set up" for next season is virtually the same as every other season, it's a bookend to the series. It's a concept they always come back to because it's the foundation of the show.
