Christopher Guest, anyone?
« on: May 20, 2004, 11:46 AM »
Just out of curiosity, anyone into Christopher Guest movies?

This Is Spinal Tap [1984]*
Waiting For Guffman [1997]
Best In Show [2000]
A Mighty Wind [2003]

(*technically directed by Rob Reiner, but essentially the same creative nucleus minus Eugene Levy...)

Like TPB, the flix are in documentary format and mostly improvised. Which is not to say that a TPB fan would enjoy 'em because of these similarities. Just implying that you might.

Is it true that Spinal Tap isn't even a real band?

They were really these washed up folkies called the Folksmen dressed up pretending to be metal.

Yes and No.

While it is a movie about a ficticious 60's/70's band- the actors actually wrote & performed the music.

They are all amazing movies,  Best in Show was one of the best w/Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara.
I have them all on DVD.

Yes all those Christopher Guest mocumentary movies are brilliant.  Clattenburg cited them as influences in his interview at the showcase site.

He also mentioned Monty Python was an influence, another one of my favorites.

Best In Show is the reason I watch dog shows now!  I crack up now whenever I see the trainer's little outfits, especially if they have pomeranians with bows in their hair.....
