The Condition Your Condition Is In

Ricky is a young guy on the verge of a heart attack (remember when KARNAC warned you about a major character being side-lined?)Many members know that I am in my late 50's . . I hate exercise unless it is "natural" - like taking long walks or riding bikes. I am a bit overweight and have borderline high blood pressure and high cholesterol.I have recovered from a couple of  serious heart arrhythmias.  Although I have been a regular drinker from a very early age (5), and a heavy pot smoker from the age of 16, my liver and lungs have been annually assessed as "perfect" by my doctors, who also insist I am not an alcoholic!

What are your chief complaints?

death-ain't-nothin-cheers!
Right now my two most serious health problems are being totally out of shape - running for a bus can be near fatal . . and the inability to do heavy lifting because of an invisible, but painful hernia.

Well, I still smoke.....just starting to feel the effects lately...a little winded....taste buds are shot.Don't drink anymore, so that helps the ol' health thing a little.

And I don't excersise.I don't even understand jogging. Why the hell would you run unless it's away from someone or something?!Mind you ,I do try to walk to work at least 3 times a week.I have been fortunate to be one of those people that can eat whatever I want and not gain a pound...but I do understand that that can't last forever. My Mom was the same way till she hit her 40's,then everything she put in her mouth made her gain weight.

All in all I enjoy relative good health, despite my bad habits.

But I guess as I approach my 40's in the next 5 years I'll have to make some lifestyle changes...bummer.

I run 10k 3 times a week, or at least I try to. I hated it at first but I really like running now, you get to see some nice scenerery out on the paths, it's a pretty quick way to stay in shape.

I'm a young guy, turning 22 on June 7th, my only health complains are a ocasionally sore back (from the crappy manual labour job I have this summer) and injuries from football (I've been polaying since I was 9) that come back into focus every now and then.

Come guys, stay active, we want all the ORG members around for a long time :P

I'm a big guy but I do play basketball and Touch football in leagues around here.  Mind you it's usually hilited by drinking beer after each but at least I try to do some sprinting.
Walking the dog a half hour every day.  I've been the same size for about 10 years, ever since the first year of university food ballooned me up 25 pounds.
I'll run when I play sports but thinking about jogging makes me cringe.

Had a physical 2 years ago (first ever) and Doc didn't say anything about anything.  Assumed I was somewhat healthy.  Waiting for something to go wrong with my appliance.

Actually, I lie, I did try the jogging thing around 10 years ago, and I do have to admit, that "high" you get is pretty good, and I did feel energized for the rest of the day ,though I still don't understand jogging !

I do notice the older I get,the more achy old injuries become. I recieved some pretty good ones in my youth due to competative gymnastics.Wrecked a wrist, knee, lower back and broke an ankle.Boy do I ever feel them now. My doc's solution was pretty funny...he suggested I excersise.  :D

Damm him, what he know?

Is carrying the case of beer to the car from the store and then in the house considered a form of physical activity?  I started carrying heavier weight.   Bud comes in 28 packs now.

Well, you would think haulin' mail and lifting heavy parcels would keep you hard as fack. When you first come on the service, you lose 10 pounds. But once your body adjusts to the activity the 10 comes back.

My legs are nice & strong. Arms & shoulders are strong enough. But my mid-section is pathetic. SO..I started hiking the mountains by my house a week ago. I'm hooked !! Which gives me hope. I need to do something I enjoy so I will keep at it and not cheese out and quit before I start seeing results.

I like being alone in the quiet desert during twilight. Gives me time to think and explore. It also decimates my stress levels which is what I really need in my life. I suffer from social anxiety and it got really worse when I quit drinking. So I'll keep hiking and climbing the mountains for now.
You might be sexy Julian....but you can't teach me anything about liquor....

Lot's of aches and pains from being cavalier with my body in my teens and twenties. Trying to work harder than anyone else on the jobsites. If they carried a 2x12 , I'd carry 2 of them damn it! 2 sheets of plywood. Run up the mountain a few minits faster each day , with a bit more gas and oil. Jump down to the next ledge instead of hikeing around or ropeing. Digging harder and longer on those 6 1/2 deep foot pole holes. Now in my 30's I'm takeing it much easier , and working much less (choice and circumstance) , but paying for the past abuses to my body. Sore knees take much of the joy outta my 5k runs (not jogging!!) . Slow healing wrist from a minor break in tae kwan do ,neck that constantly goes out from years of holding a chainsaw in my left hand and unbalancing my body.

I have been diagnosed as clinically depressed off and on for the past couple of decades. Have taken a variety of antidepressents, but do better on Saint John's Wort, with no side effects. If you haven't tried this very safe and effective herbal treatment, it is available at almost every drugstore and healthfood place. Takes a week or two before you get the full effect.

p.s. here is a depression self-assessment test:

Yeah I was going to say seriousguy after having read your post about your friend dying it may be a natural thing to feel depressed, but there are people here, like Ben, who know more about the subject of depression than I do and can give you advice.  All I can say is maybe you should get diagnosed?

I do a lot of heavy lifting at my steel mill job, so my arms are getting pretty strong. I try to do too much I think, being the only woman on the shift, I feel like I have to prove that I can do whatever the guys can do, so I don't ask for help as often as I should (some of the guys are courteous enough to help without my asking, but most are not). Other than that, I don't really do any kind of physical activity (used to do pilates a couple of years ago, & considering getting out the tape & starting again cause it did work). I like to go for walks & ride my bike, but nothing really strenuous.

My mom used to say I had clinical procrastinitis.  I keep meaning to go to the doctor to get it checked, but I put it off every time :)

Regardless of your health or your self diagnosed well being because you hit the gym 4 times a week or walk a million miles a year, go see the doc at least once a year and get poked and prodded.  I can't stress this enough with all my friends and family.

It could be the difference between "We caught it early" or "Its too late"

Let's see ... so far I've had 3 heart attacks, 2 strokes, and several TIA's or mini-strokes.  BTW - I'm in my late 30's lol   .  Let's just say that in the last couple of years I've made some MAJOR life changes and slowed down a little to enjoy what I've worked hard for the last 20 years or so.  Took me a long time to realize something that Sheryl Crow wrote only a few years back: "It's not having what you want .... it's wanting what you've got".  Ironic that it took the lyrics from a pop song to make me take a look at my life.

That said, I now eat healthier, get more sleep, don't smoke cig's any more, excersize regularily, and work much less.  I still enjoy my drinks, however, and tend to get "drunk as fuck" every so often   .
