Deals Deals Deals......Gotta love em'.

Went to my first yard sale today.  It was an estate sale/yard sale, so they were selling everything!!

I snagged two practically brand new Buoy-O-Boy PFD's (personal floatation device) for 8 bucks!!!   I would've gone and paid top dollar at Canadian mawfucker too, cuz I needed some for my new boat. :P

Anybody else here that likes to go yard sailing

or that will admit to it

I only get stuff that I can use.....9 times out of 10, I'll walk away without spending a dime.  I don't come home with a shitload of knick knacks and dust collectors (things that sit around, never get used, and collect dust).

I guess I owe it all to my Mother for draggin' me around to every yardsale from here to Sunnyvale.

I enjoy a good yard sale (as a buyer not a seller). I tried to have one myself a couple of years ago, and tried to get the neighbours involved (handed out flyers about a month beforehand inviting everyone to have one as well so it would be a street sale which attracts more people). A couple of days before the sale, one of my neighbours said that he was thinking about putting some stuff out which made me happy cause I thought my plan was going to work. However, he didn't and my sad sale was the only one on the street. At least it was nice & sunny out. Some people are soo cheap!! I had stuff priced fairly, and they would still want it for like half of what was on the tag! I had an old karaoke machine that needed a bit of work priced for $1 (a fair price I think), and this dick said he would buy it for 50 cents!! Anyway, it was so not worth the work of cleaning out the closets, pricing everything, and setting up. Also my reluctant neighbour had his garage sale the next weekend and it pissed down rain!

I just got back about a half hour ago. I got a mint "Alf" T.V. tray:),  some 64 games(eBay fodder) and a really cool book , the "Canadian Book of the road" the same book that Terry Fox used on his Marathon of Hope.
Pickens were kinda slim but it is early. I'm out every saturday morning in the summer,  my Timmies in hand:)

We bought a plastic toy crib, swing high chair thingy for the baby to play with in a few years this mornign at a yard sale.  Wife said that they are expensive to buy new, so we got a decent deal.  wasn't really looking for much else.  Hate haggling with prices.

Where I live ,we have a great annual event "garbage swap"     . For 2 or 3 weeks everyone (10,000 households ?) can put 2 cubic meters of assorted (but somewhat restricted ie no toxic ,no branches) "trash" at the end of the driveway . Everyone is encouraged to drive arround and choose whatever you want. After a while ,the municipalities and regional district goes around with garbage trucks ,dumptrucks and backhoes to collect all that is left. This discourages illegal dumping on the many logging roads up in the hills. You would be amazed at what people decide to leave out!! It's like a free garage sale for most of May!!

Yard sales were/are big with my Mom, just like Beav, my Mom always took us with her usually on Sunday afternoons, if after a couple of hours it didnt look promising, we would go to the beach and walk around/play in the sand. (I love the ocean so much.)  Now she takes her grandchildren with her and says she cant wait until the newest member of the family (he is 14 months old now) is old enough to go with her...she always says to me, "you guys should come home for a visit and go yard sale'n with me" - I havent done that in years. I think maybe its time for a visit!

Melba, It's tried to rain on me the few times when I've had sales over the years...just bad luck I suppose.

Smg, I've gotten pretty good with hagglin'....I hated it before as well and wasn't very good at it.  I think I'm pretty good at it now...I don't try and rip people off and I won't pay too much for an item.  There as some old farts that'll try to get a 25 cent item for a dime...and then when you say ok....they say...will you take a nickel?  holy crap...cheap pricks!!

My better half just hates yardsalin' so I usually sneak off real early and cruise around.

My find of the day was a vintage 1980's ADIDAS red & Blue vinyl gym bag,  I use to have one just like it when I was 10 or so. I still remember what ADIDAS stood for(AAllDDayIIDDreamAaboutSsex) even then:):)

(i'll post a pic later)

I know what you mean, I've had some bad luck with microwave popcorn recently, but I'm way too lazy to dig out the air popper. $2 sounds like a pretty good deal.

Morning everyone:)

Just got back from my 4 hour G-Sale trek. Found some nice little gems this morn,  for $7.25 I got to old video game systems and a total of 20 games(and they both work),  a 1982 comemorative(sic) numbered "MASH" plate,  still in it's original box($0.25 cents),  and some other things:) I love getting out and doing that.

Well , that time of year has rolled around again , and it feels appropriate to revise this topic , considering the theme of this years season!

2 days ago , I picked up a gas powered weed eater ( no , not a mechanical cougar  ;)   ) , from beside someones driveway. A few pulls let me know that there was compression , so it was worth working on. I just spent a few hours fixing it. The fuel priming hose had a hole in it ( I figured that after I got a spray of gas in one of my eyes  :( ) , but was long enough to cut the broken section out. The ignition system was sparking , and when I dribbled gas into the carb , it fired , so I knew that it was just a fuel delivery problem. I dismantled and cleaned the carb , and tightened the loose screws, and presto , I now have a working weed whacker!!  8) I already have 2 very good ones , but hey it's free , and I can always sell it.

Any other folks have a big spring garbage swap like this? Any other good free stuff stories?

We just had our annual big garage pick up week also.  You should have seen the streets, everyone had big piles of dirty junk outside their houses.  Most of our stuff was my brother's, (who had to move in downstairs after his rented house was demolished). Can you say packrat?  It's funny to see all the vehicles with little trailers behind them cruising for junk.

Scored some cool stuff I could probably turn a profit on. Got a McFarlane Gretzky in Oiler silks still in package for 3 bux. I have a collection of Canadian NHL team plaques with their sweaters and buildings thru the years. I was missing montreal and I scored it for a buck.

Saucy just wants to see the bra section, I just know it!   :boobies:

However, since the catalogue is from 1958 you'll have to be satisfied with the chastity belt section, Uncle B.   :P
