Just got back from the dentist,  had a wisdom tooth pulled,  had a new cap put on a tooth and something else done.  I think that was the most pain I have ever endured in my life:(

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled in november.  Luckily I got knocked the fuck out.  They even gave them to me as a souvenir.

They've were telling me the same thing RF150, but since I have dental coverage, I decided to go for it.  Cost $1100 but got every cent back.

I would take up a "beer plan" if someone decided to start one :-)
You know , if you fall on hard times and can't afford beer they will provide you with 10 pints a day till you "get back on your feet"  :-)

Anyway money or no money , i am shit scared of dentists :-(

Got my impacted wisdom teeth pulled when I was 15 (yikes! 10 years ago!), got knocked out for it. Only one tooth remained in tact and they gave it to me, I was determined to make a necklace out of it, but never did. I took the tooth to school for some peculiar reason and thought I lost it somewhere, but then like only a few months ago my Mum was cleaning  things out and found some kind of deocrative jar with a lid on it and inside this jar was my tooth! Anyway, I lost my dental coverage when I quit my job at the grocery store last year, so I haven't been in a while. I was supposed to go next week, but cancelled my appt.

I was 15 as well when I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. But I had major headaches with mine.... that's why they were taken out. But I was at a hospital in Halifax and was knocked out as well. They offered my teeth to me but I said no thanks. Back in those days.... never had to pay a cent for them...covered by MSI.

I hear ya there! I had a terrible Dental experience the summer I was 11....I won't bore ya with a long gruesome story, but suffice to say I have been petrified ever since. I hate it. And why does it have to hurt? For the amount of fuckin money we spend ya think they could come up with something better than they have now. Last time I went to the dentist to have a tooth done, it took three shots of novacane or whatever it is and it still hurt like a son of a bitch! Get some better shit man!

Bah! I don't mind who knows I'm an old broad!

I actually wanted to be a dentist when I was a kid until my dentist (who was a sadist, I swear!) went at my mouth with the drill to fill a cavity with no freezing. I think I wanted to be a dentist cause I loved Steve Martin's character in the movie Little Shop of Horrors. Haven't had a cavity since!

Cool fishy! I saw a production of it at Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton many a year ago, and I have no idea how he did it, but my dad got us front row seats!! The only bad thing was we choked on the exhaust from Orin Scrivello's (the Dentist) motorcycle. But it was wicked none the less!

In our production, we had an actual Audrey two costume (three in fact). Poor sucker who worked the costume almost suffered heat exhaustion.

Same experience . . for years my dentist has been wanting me to get my fackin wisdom teeth out - but as long as they don't bother me, i ain't bothering them.

As regards being phobic of dentists, i used to be very nervous - but i found (actually my wife found) a tiny lady-dentist who almost cries if she causes you any discomfort. I have been visiting the dentist every six months for the past decade.

Got insurance out the wazoo, so little or no cost to me. I do like Ranger's idea about a "beer plan" - thought I would prefer an all-inclusive "booze plan".
When you get that sorted out, Ranger, I'll definitely join the plan.

Big Cheers!

I had my wisdomes out as a teen . 2 out at 15 and 2 at 17 . It was unbelievably easy!  Saucy : " when are you gonna get started?" Dentist : " one is already out and now I'm on to #2" . One day off school and then back . A few days of bleeding ...thats all .
I havn't had insurance since I was 19 ,so I am really carefull ,flossing and brushing often ,but that hasn't helped much as my dentist says that I have an especially potent strain of plaque bacteria. I have made the mistake of waiting too long in the hopes of saveing $$ ,but that attitude has fucked me over in the end. A little $100 filling can turn into a $ 300 filling or even a $1000 root canall in in short time! Last year I had waited too long as usuall. He saved 2 of the back 4 and filled a third ,but warned that I would definitly know if it ended up needing a root canall . 3 weeks later (when my mother in law was visiting    ) I woke up and suspected that this pain was what he had warned about! By the end of the day , I KNEW!! Holy shit ,tooth pain can really suck! I took some otc codein with acetaminophin... went to bed ...no help! Took some advil and more tylenol.... then I woke my wife up ,knowing that she had some Adivan (sedative) . She groggily directed me to her pill bottle...there was 1 blue one and 4 white ones..... I really wanted it to be the white ones , becouse there was more of them . I took 2....1 hour later ,I'm sweating and feeling  wide awake and really edgy! So I woke the wife up again to ask " what were the white pills?" Turns out they were Ephidrine that she sometimes took before dance lessons . When I was hand digging 6 foot deep Hydro Pole Holes for BC Hydro (our power company) , I would take 1/3 rd of a pill and work like a motherfucker for 6 hours with hardly any breaks!!) I had just taken 6X that dose!! I actually started to cry ! At this point I didn't care that the motherinlaw was sleeping down the hall ,and lit up a big stinky joint. Then I chugged 4 oz of rum (out of character for me) and took some more codeine and the one adivan. I didn't sleep at all ,but lay on the couch all night ,tripping out . The pain subsided for a while...what an interesting cocktail that was! When i got to my dentist the next morning ,I had to wait for the painkillers to wear off before they could test my tooth! That sucked , but later that afternoon , when he canalled it , the relief was instantanious ...whew!

As for tooth # 4 ... written off ..lower left rear molar gone at age 34! That was fairly depressing ,and I felt a profound sense of loss  :?  .

Lesson learned ,checkups and minor fillings are cheap and relativly inexpensive!

Oooh!!!, Rev. Saucy - i really do feel yr pain . . been there  -done that! So glad yr finished with that shit - for now - I had a friend who had a lot of dental problems - Helmut was his name - and he went to the hospital here in Toronto and got them to pull every mawfackin last tooth out of his head - all at one go - he was heavily sedated -  and install his fackin false teeth right over the stitched gums!!!!

bonus:
A husband and wife entered the dentist's office. The husband said, "I want a tooth pulled. I don't want gas or Novocaine because I'm in a terrible hurry and low on funds. Just pull the tooth as quickly as possible."

"You're a brave man," said the dentist. "Now, show me which tooth it is."

The husband turns to his wife and says, "Open your mouth and show the dentist which tooth it is, dear."

Cheers!

I fuckin' hear every word of that brother.  I can remember the throbbing pain so bad the day after I got my top two out.  Brought big fuckin' croc-o-dilly tears to my eyes.  Worst pain, you bet.....second, would have to be when I dis-located my shoulder.

Here ya go Ghosty, I hope this makes ya feel better.......

Green Day ~ Novacaine........Fuckin' awesome tune!! Crank-it-up-focker!!

Take away the sensation
Inside bittersweet migrain in my head
It's like a throbbing toothache of the mind,
I can't take this feeling anymore

Drain the pressure from the swelling
This sensations over whelming
Give me a long kiss goodnight
And everything will be alright
Tell me that I won't feel a thing
Give me novacaine

Out of body and out of mind
Kiss the demons out of my dreams
I get the funny feeling that's alright
Jimmy says it's better than air
I'll tell you what

Drain the pressure from the swelling
This sensation's over whelming
Give me a long kiss goodnight
And everything will be alright
Tell me that I won't feel a thing.
so give me novacaine

Drain the pressure from the swelling
This sensation's overwhelming
Give me a long kiss good night
And everything will be alright
Tell me Jimmy I won't feel a thing
Give me novacaine
I may have alzheimer's...But at least I don't have alzheimer's

I got an "owie" from shaving this morning
Please don't ever let me go through the kind of pain described by all of you guys and girls. It would take a lot more than a stupid puppet to get me to the hospital to have a tooth ache seen to. Root canal sounds like something out of a 1900's horror movie.

I love my dentist ... he's freakin' gorgeous.

Every time he says "open wide" I have dirty thoughts.

Seriously, he's a hottie and it sure takes the mind off the pain when you get to stare into huge, chocolate-brown eyes ...

Having said that, a visit to the dentist is still not my fave thing as it puts a frickin' dent in the old pocketbook - money which I could have spent at the pub.  Feh.

Cheers,
B.
