huge building by Terry's house?
« on: Apr 25, 2005, 03:27 PM »
Ive noticed there is an enormous building in the background whenever there is a scene out front of Terry and Dennis's house.  Anyone have any idea what it is? It kind of looks like a factory or a brewery.

I thought it looked like grain elevators, or silos of some sort.

It is the old grain elevators in Halifax, they have been shut down long ago, and now they are infested with rats, and the majority of the houses in that area are infested with rats as well...Because it is located near the waterfront, and it's a semi-greasy part of Hali...I say semi-greasy just in case anyone lives in that area...But really, I think it is fully-greasy, a perfect place for two brothers to live that likes to sell dope and let their wang blow free...

Yes the dirty part of the South End, the South End itself is fine.  That is where a lot of the University students live, and it is close to downtown with the bars.  I used to live on Hollis Street, which is close to the Harbour.  The hookers used to come into the lobby of our apartment building to keep warm.

Here's some pics of the grain elevators and a story...

Here is an aerial picture of Halifax, I put a line over the area where the grain elevators are.

Alright.

Edit:  I deleted the re-post of the pic after FF64 got the pic, no need for the pic to be stored twice.

I recently watched a show on Discovery and the Halifax explosion was rated as the 3rd or 4th biggest explosion in the world.

Hiroshima was one above and a missile test explosion in Siberia was the biggest.

That's all i can remember.

Yeah, but that was a bomb made purposely for that, the halifax explosion was caused when two ships hit each other.  Also, this is just after WWII, before they had those bombs.

Are you talking the very end where the sound guy gets shot?  If that is the case you can see one of two bridges and I don't recall seeing any grain elevators, they aren't that close to either bridge.

And while I'm on the subject, for any people who haven't heard this yet that was the pre-Bubbles Mike Smith who got shot and that was the original "WHAT IN THE FUCK" that they have used throughout the show.  The Donnie/Danny/Screaming guy character is also Mike.

I think it's excellent there are so many "locals" on here that are from the Halifax area or Nova Scotia in general.  It really makes the show hit home, so to speak.  I feel close to the show as well even though I am in Ontario.
