Are ya cat person or a dog person? We are having an impassioned debate about this on my Hockey forum{what else to talk about with no friggin hockey!!}
Dogs are wining by a slim margine...interested to know where everyone hear lies.

I'm definately a Cat person.I like dogs,don't get me wrong, but I love a Cats screw you attitude:D

You to the dog: "Fido, fetch"
Fido: "O.k boss, whatever you say..."

You to the cat: " Fluffy fetch"
Fluffy: " Go fuck yerself" {licks ass}

We could re-configure this as a poll, and vote. I am more of a cat person, probably because I've lived in big cities most of my life. My first pets were dogs (and a duck who thought she was a dog -chasin cars and quackin) - but now I have no pets since my 17-year-old cat died last year. So CATS!

How about dogs that act like/think they are cats?
That seems to be what I have ended up with.  Looks like a dog, small like a cat (there are actually many cats much bigger then him) sits on the back of the couch/chair looking out the window like a cat, but barks like hell at the mailman when he comes up the steps, lays in the sun on the floor like a cat, chases and fetches his squeaky toy like a dog...holy crap...now I am confused is he a dog or a cat?
Thats him in my avatar btw, on the arm of the chair looking out the front window!
My God...what a drunk horror show!

LOL@hunnerbun!  My old dog (a Lhasa Apso) thought he was a cat, too!  He grew up around my big tabby at and adopted many "cat-like" behaviours, like chasing after flashlight beams on the floor, lying in the sun (beside the cat), and hopping up on furniture, including the dining room table with such ease (I was astounded to hear "plop" and thought the cat jumped up on the table behind me, but I was shocked to turn around and see the dog there instead).  Sometimes he even slept on the back of the couch with the cat.  I miss 'em both :(

BUT, I am a cat person :)  I love all animals, but cats and I seem to just "click" better together.  Cats rule, dogs drool :wink:

To be honest, and I've mentioned his before, I'm not much a pet person. I'm pretty anal when it comes to keeping my place clean so I don't like the idea of pet hair everywhere. Having said that, I am in love with my next door neighbour's beagle. Her name is Ginger. She never barks and is very affectionate. I've babysat my buddy's cat, Scamper. I think cats are snobs. They only come to you when they need or want something. I'm definitely more of a dog person. But I still don't want any pets in my home.

If that's the case should we not include ducks who think they are dogs in the poll?

Well , I voted Cat ,but I plan to be a Dog person soon ,now that our yard is Finally completely fenced. We have had a new cat since september ,our daughter named him Pushkins. She wants him to be hers and locks him in her room every night that she's home. This has had the interesting effect of makeing him non nocturnal. Because I'm the only one who feeds him ,he worships the ground that I walk on.  :D  Follows me everywhere, comes when I call, watches me bathe ,sits on my chest when I read bedtime stories and sleeps all night at my feet when our daughter is sleeping over elsewhere.

  We have been wanting a dog (and a crow too!) ,and would like to find a BeagleX? (I don't really like most purebreads)

I love animals! The only things I would not have as a pet are any form of spiders...Trantulas are cool, but I don't think they would be great pets...But  I am definately a cat person! I have 2 fat cats. One white shorthaired cat, and one mane-coon that totally looks like a raccoon.
      The big difference for me is, dogs are more high maintenance that cats...Having a dog is what I would imagine  it would be like working for J-Lo...They can be beautful to look at, but your day would revolve around taking it for walks, stop it from tearing up all the shit in your house...knocking things over with it's big ole ass, and crapping on the floor (don't know if J-Lo craps on the floor) Your whole day is devoted to taking care of the dog.
 Cats, I feed them twice a day, keep their water fresh, I clean out thier litter box, they come around when they want a little attention...that is the extent to the work for cats. And, yeah, I love their "don't give a shit attitude"

cats are ok, but i love the goofiness of dogs, and coming home to dogs, they are ALWAYS happy to see you.  mine comes to work with me everyday (very casual office environment) she mostly snoozes on 'her' chair only getting up when the mailman comes with her daily treat.  i did have a cat for a while, but he was an a**hole.  frigging prick.  in the end, i went away for a week, left him with a friend and he took off on her, she swears he flipped her the bird as he ran.

I have a dog now, and have owned many of each at the same time.  I have always enjoyed how lazy cats were and that they didn't really need exercise or to have attention paid to them.  But getting a dog and training it gave me some good experience for being a first time father.  The little shedding bastard is just like a kid.  Always needs to eat at certain times, and shit at certain times ( which I gotta clean up) and exercise.  I still love my dog, Moka.

It touches my heart that every time I come home, whether it's for lunch or after work, my cat Freddie hears me come in and RUNS down the stairs meowing, rubs up against me, meows some more, then waits for me to sit down so he can curl up in my lap.

Did I mention before I love cats?  :)

How does one go about getting a pet duck, Ben? I am curious to know.

I have kitties at home in Halifax. I miss them so. However, I am impartial to this poll. I do not care for cats more than dogs or vice versa. They are all good people to me.

Thought going through a dog's head when you're around:  "Look at me!  Look at me!  Hey, over here!  I'm over here!  Pay attention to me!  Look at me, over here!"

Thought going through a cat's head when you're around:  "Have you cleaned my litter?  Is there fresh water?  Is my food dish full?  Well done, slave, now bow before me."

j/k  :wink:

Yes, my daughter and son-in-law have toads and lizards
of various sorts  - very quiet and some of the creatures are - not warm - but engaging.

I still mourn my old cat's passing and wonder if I should start again? - A good pet is a wonderful thang!
Cheers!

I wanted to get a new cat for a while and name it Orange Juice, after the orangutang in Life Of Pi, but now that my sister is moving here from BC we'll have a total of 3 cats in our house... maybe after she moves out I'll get OJ.

I never could resist a poll!  I wish there was an option for "both" though, I understand more people are allergic to cats, whereas dogs are often larger and require more space and care among the many pros and cons for both.  But when you have both, and they know and like each other, there is little sweeter than to see "natural enemies" curl up to sleep side by side, or give one another a bath.  :)

Man domesticated the dog first and it's therefore his first true animal friend.  I don't think we ever domesticated any cat fully, but last year a Cro Magnon (I believe I remember correctly) burial was unearthed with a wild kitten curled neatly alongside.  They are both man's oldest companions.  Peaceable kingdom!

 I have a very faint memory of where I first saw it and know some nice resources, if I find it I'll try to find a link or copy and PM it to you or something like that.  I remember a photo with the article.  -Oh, and the wild cat was "Felix sylvestris".  Now you know the origin of Sylvester the cartoon cat, it's the European wildcat.
