Although this has apparently been years in the making
it's only now due to a leaked document that this is finally getting the attention that it deserves.

For our own good, give Canada away

The 'deep integrationists' plan one happy continent, but we must teach the little ones. Water, power, culture on the table Kids to learn continental virtue

Sad and worrying stuff, TC, but we've heard it all before and for a very long time. I don't say these are not serious concerns, but I think it is in everyone's best interest to have countries maintain their uniqueness. It is probably cheaper and much less hassle for a country like the U.S. to have Canada as a client state, than to actually be responsible for the society.

There is a fine balance to the U.S./Canada relationship - a kind of dance - a waltz that has lasted quite a long while now. I think Canada will continue as Canada.
Course one never knows, do one?

No Ben, one never knows....and i do think this is serious. As long as people keep sluffing this stuff off, as "we've heard it all before..blah,blah,blah..." we do ourselves as citizens a real disservice.Of course we're not going to wake up tommorow morning and all be required to fly the American flag and pledge allegiance to it.That's not the point. But we may wake up one day and find out we are beholden to fullfill certain quotas guaranteed them regarding our resources even if it means selling ourselves short. The selling of the proverbial farm, as it were, by a bunch of un-elected power brokers behind closed doors.

"This is the most dangerous development in the annexation push so far. Conventional wisdom has suggested that the U.S. was simply not interested. If Bush is suddenly willing to talk about the idea there is only one reason: Behind the scenes our quisling economic elite has promised the U.S. such huge concessions on security, energy and water that they can't afford to ignore them."

In the years to come ,Water will become a fought over resource. Pipelines running from he melting polar regions to the ever increasingly parched southern (Canada included) regions.

Well, while we're at this, I am sure planet Earth would be in much better shape without our particular species - (why does this feel so Planet Of The Apes-ish?) - I am not at all convinced this is a major dirtball we are hurtling through space upon. Countries rise and fall all through history - this is such a brief moment, barely a footnote . . I've paid my dues as a social activist - I just feel very tired thinking about geo-politics in general.
