I didn't watch the video before posting - I've just come back and wondered why my inbox is full of cryptic messages. OK, advice? Um, well to get on the show I had to do some pretty shameful things I don't really want to talk about...
But seriously, anyone wanting to do acting/background - be prepared for some serious hard work! You need to get experience working on sets any way you can. My first background job was on Countdown to Liquor Day, which I found out about on the ORG. Find out who the local (legit) background casting agencies are and sign up, get some good headshots (photos) and start looking for opportunities.
Once you get a gig, do a FUCKING AWESOME job on set so you get noticed - even if you're having to do mundane and boring stuff like walk down the street or react to a scene, make sure you give it 100% at all times (and look like you're having a great time doing it, even if you're not).
Try and do free stuff too (speaking roles for student productions and indie short films are great places to start), go for auditions, get an agent if you can, and concentrate on getting a good resume together to show you have experience... then it gets a little easier to get the jobs you want, especially background work.
Begging and pleading also goes a long way, that's how I got on Drunk and on Drugs.
