Alice In Wonderland: I was looking forward to seeing this movie, but didn't know if I'd have enough spare cash to go; luckily, it opened just after pay day, so I could afford it (but not the 3D version). Anyway, I wish I had saved my money; not because it was bad, but because there are just some movies that aren't good enough to spend my hard earned money on (& I could acquire them through other means for free). The visuals of the movie are very good & are entertaining in themselves, but it's almost as if that's all there is to the movie. The story seemed too disjointed for me when Alice first finds herself in Wonderland; the plot didn't seem to flow smoothly. Also, there were a couple scenes where the dialogue was either garbled, or just not understandable, so I missed out on what was being said. One of these scenes was when the Hatter spoke something into Alice's ear, I asked my friend what was said, but she didn't hear it either (so it's not a matter of my being slightly deaf). I hate to say it, but Depp's Hatter bugged me sometimes; he seemed more like Jack Sparrow in some parts & not a distinct character. Speaking of characters reminding me of other characters: the Red Queen is very similar to Blackadder II's Queen Elizabeth in several ways! To me their voices sounded very similar, their mannerisms, their short tempers, their obliviousness, their selfcentredness, their flirtations with lackeys. I think this was a project more about the visual aspect than the storyline or character. Also, I think if this weren't a Disney project, Burton may have made it much darker. Disappointing.
